Senior Android Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Android Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of some of our most critical Android features that define the Seller experience on Motorway. You will own the architecture and delivery of complex and interesting app capabilities that push the boundaries of what our mobile platform can achieve. Day-to-day, you will build and evolve our in-house Server-Driven UI framework, enabling rapid feature delivery and dynamic experiences without requiring traditional app releases to the stores. You will closely analyze UI details and overall app experience, ensuring that every interaction meets the highest standards of quality and performance. In this role, you will champion best practices across the mobile codebase and act as a technical leader who raises the bar for engineering excellence. You will also build a deep understanding of the backend systems that power our app to ensure seamless integration and robust, reliable functionality.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Architect and implement complex and interesting app features that enhance the Seller journey and improve conversion outcomes.
• Develop and evolve our in-house Server-Driven UI framework to enable dynamic experiences and faster iteration cycles without app releases.
• Build and maintain our mobile infrastructure, including CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and App Store deployment workflows.
• Build and maintain our automated UI testing platform to ensure high confidence in releases and stability across device matrices.
• Champion best practices for mobile engineering, code quality, performance, and security across the team.
• Analyze the details of the UI and overall app experience to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
• Build an understanding of the backend systems that power the app to ensure efficient communication and data flow between services.
• Work closely with cross-functional partners to define technical roadmaps and prioritize work for maximum business impact.
• Mentor and guide other engineers on the team, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Evaluate and integrate modern tooling and technologies to keep our mobile stack competitive and future-proof.
• Own end-to-end delivery of features, from initial scoping through implementation, testing, and production deployment.
• Partner with data and analytics teams to instrument and measure the impact of features on user behavior and business metrics.
• Ensure that all implementations comply with platform guidelines and regulatory requirements relevant to our marketplace.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Android development and proficiency with the latest mobile platform frameworks and features, including Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
• 0 to 1 experience building and delivering successful products from scratch in a production environment.
• A proven ability to ship impactful, high-scale mobile applications that perform well under demanding conditions.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Driven mindset with a bias to action and the initiative to solve complex problems independently.
• Experience building complex reusable modules that can be integrated across multiple applications and contexts.
• Experience integrating modern ML/AI technology into app journeys to enhance Seller interactions and outcomes.

• Practical experience with full-stack development to enable better collaboration with backend teams.
