About the role
This role is for an aspiring educator who is ready to commit to a multi-year journey of professional growth and student impact within the Mastery Schools community. You will own the implementation of high-quality instruction grounded in our rigorous literacy and math curricula, ensuring that every lesson moves students toward mastery of academic standards. You will collaborate daily with skilled general and special education teachers to design and deliver small-group instruction in both push-in and pull-out settings, adapting to the needs of diverse learners. In this position, you will gradually expand your teaching responsibilities, transitioning from a support role to a lead teaching role through a structured, practice-based residency model. You will build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues, contributing to a joyful, student-centered, and inclusive school culture. You will actively engage in cycles of coaching, feedback, and reflection to refine your practice and close opportunity gaps for students. Your work will directly support Mastery's mission to provide all students with the academic and personal skills they need to succeed after graduation and pursue their dreams. You will play a key role in disrupting systemic racism by addressing disparities and creating more equitable outcomes for students in Philadelphia and Camden.

What you'll do
Conduct ongoing analysis of student work and assessment data to refine instructional planning and adjust small-group strategies in literacy and mathematics.
Design and deliver high-quality lessons that implement Mastery's rigorous curricula while incorporating culturally responsive practices to meet the needs of all learners.
Lead targeted small-group instruction in both push-in and pull-out settings to address specific skill gaps and accelerate learning for students.
Observe and analyze lessons delivered by mentor teachers, using structured feedback protocols to identify growth areas and apply them to personal practice.
Collaborate with grade-level teams to co-plan lessons, share resources, and align instructional strategies with school-wide priorities and standards.
Partner with special and general education teachers to implement individualized learning plans and support students with diverse needs in inclusive environments.
Implement classroom management systems that establish a positive, joyful, and student-centered learning environment rooted in respect and high expectations.
Use coaching cycles and feedback from Graduate School Faculty Partners and central office-based coaches to set goals, monitor progress, and refine teaching practices.
Support the creation and maintenance of student portfolios and data binders to track academic growth and communicate progress with families and colleagues.
Contribute to school-wide initiatives aimed at disrupting systemic racism and advancing equity through curriculum review, professional learning, and family engagement.
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness by taking on varied leadership roles within the school, including supervising student activities and supporting school events.
Engage in continuous professional learning by participating in workshops, seminars, and peer learning communities focused on instructional best practices.
Document student progress and instructional decisions to inform ongoing reflection and to support performance evaluations at the end of the residency year.
Serve as a positive representative of the Mastery community while building authentic partnerships with students, families, and staff.
Requirements
Be at least 21 years of age at the start of the program.
Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution by the start of the program.
Be eligible to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship for the position at this time.
Commit to the full duration of the multi-year residency program, including all required training, coaching, and teaching responsibilities.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to educational equity and the mission of Mastery Schools to disrupt systemic racism and address disparities.
Pass a background check and meet all school district and state requirements for working with minors.
Relocate to or reside in the Philadelphia area prior to the start date and maintain reliable transportation to the school placement.
Provide documentation of vaccination against COVID-19 or a valid medical or religious exemption as required by Mastery Schools.
Be available to participate in residency training sessions, coaching meetings, and school-based professional learning outside of regular contract hours as needed.

Successful residents will complete the program requirements and transition into a full-time lead teaching position at Mastery Schools after their first year.
