About the role

The NJ Family and Community Engagement Organizer is responsible for implementing Mastery Schools' vision of authentic partnership with parents, families, and community stakeholders to support student success and strengthen school communities. This role owns the design and execution of family engagement strategies that elevate parent voice, develop parents as advocates and leaders, and align home and school priorities around shared student goals. The organizer serves as the central relationship-builder within the Mastery NJ network school community, coordinating outreach, events, and communications to ensure families feel welcomed, informed, and empowered. This position drives collaboration with community partners to connect families with resources, expand opportunities for student support, and advance equity-focused engagement practices. The role requires strong organizing skills to coordinate committees, meetings, and campaigns that build trust and sustainable partnerships across schools and neighborhoods. The NJ Family and Community Engagement Organizer will also coordinate advocacy initiatives, facilitate leadership development for parents, and support data-driven approaches to improve family engagement outcomes. Success in this position means creating conditions where families are active participants in school improvement and students benefit from a connected, supportive community.

What you'll do

Coordinate and execute a comprehensive family engagement plan that strengthens relationships between families, staff, and community partners in the Camden network.

Develop and lead workshops, training sessions, and informational events that equip parents with tools to support student learning and well-being at home.

Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with families, ensuring communication is culturally responsive, accessible, and aligned with family needs.

Collaborate with school leadership and teachers to identify engagement priorities and design strategies that increase family participation in school activities.

Organize and manage parent committees, focus groups, and advisory structures that give families a meaningful voice in school decisions and policies.

Facilitate communication between home and school by coordinating messaging, updates, and resources that are clear, timely, and actionable for families.

Partner with community organizations to connect families with external resources, services, and opportunities that support student success and family stability.

Plan and oversee family engagement events such as school meetings, learning nights, and community forums that are inclusive, welcoming, and results-oriented.

Monitor and evaluate engagement efforts, using feedback and data to refine approaches, improve participation, and demonstrate impact on student outcomes.

Serve as a liaison between families and school staff, helping to resolve concerns, clarify expectations, and foster a collaborative school culture.

Lead outreach and recruitment efforts to engage underrepresented families, ensuring diverse voices are included in school leadership and decision-making processes.

Support the implementation of school-wide family engagement standards and best practices, contributing to continuous improvement across the network.

Represent Mastery Schools in the Camden community by building partnerships with local agencies, faith leaders, and civic organizations to expand support for students and families.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire or application submission.

Must have the legal right to work in the United States and must provide documentation confirming identity and employment eligibility as required by law.

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent credential at the time of application or hire.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and related screenings as required by Mastery Schools' policies and applicable laws.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions that would interfere with full-time employment during the 2026-27 school year.

Must be able to provide reliable transportation to perform job duties effectively and consistently across assigned locations in the Camden area.

Must be willing and able to attend meetings, events, and training sessions during evenings and weekends as needed to support family engagement goals.

Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively engage with families, staff, and community partners.

Nice to have

Preferred experience in education, community organizing, family engagement, or a related field that demonstrates a commitment to student success and family partnership.

Experience working with urban school communities, particularly in Camden, New Jersey, or similar environments.

Skills in data entry, record-keeping, and basic reporting related to family engagement activities and program participation.

Familiarity with community resources, social service agencies, and local partnerships that can support student and family needs.

Experience leading workshops or training sessions for parents or community members.

Ability to speak multiple languages or demonstrate cultural competency that aligns with the diversity of the Camden community.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position for the 2026-27 school year with daytime hours and additional evening and weekend commitments as needed for family engagement activities.

Travel is required between schools and community sites within the Camden area as part of relationship-building and event coordination.

Candidates must meet all school-year start dates and background check requirements as a condition of employment.
