This role is primarily based within our schools. There are also opportunities to work from our office location located just south of Downtown Los Angeles.
Job Description
The Associate Director of Teaching & Learning, Science is responsible for leading the design and implementation of content-specific visions, systems, and structures. These efforts are essential for advancing KIPP SoCal's regional academic priorities in Science programming. In close collaboration with the Director of Teaching & Learning, the Director of Math & Science, the Director of Literacy, and school leadership teams, the Associate Director sets clear direction through defined goals and success metrics. They lead professional development for school leaders and provide differentiated, on-the-ground support to schools based on need and capacity. The Associate Director of T&L, Science may also spearhead team-wide, cross-content projects. These projects exercise strong project management skills and support the team in achieving yearly goals related to science achievement. Every initiative this role leads-from vision creation and new teacher onboarding to tiered school support-is conducted in service of ensuring that all students experience an equitable, joyful, and academically excellent learning environment.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $130,000.00 to $160,000.00 annually.
What You'll Do
- Design the scope and sequence for science curriculum across partner campuses on a regional level.
- Build assessment tools that track student growth and inform responsive instruction.
- Run workshops that strengthen teacher practice and classroom culture.
- Guide new teacher onboarding to ensure science routines launch effectively.
- Review classroom evidence to refine instructional units and support instructional coaching.
- Develop and ship instructional materials that align with scope, standards, and equity.
- Partner with families and communities to connect science learning to lived experience.
- Champion anti-bias work to ensure every student experiences a sense of belonging in science.
- Lead cross-subject projects that manage timelines and meet annual academic goals.
- Support schools with tiered assistance based on health, capacity, and changing needs.
Requirements
- You hold a degree in science or a related field with documented expertise.
- You bring 3 to 5 years of experience guiding science instruction within schools.
- You understand academic standards and can translate them into effective classroom practice.
- You communicate clearly and effectively with both adults and students in diverse settings.
- You are legally authorized to work in the United States for this employer.
Nice to Have
Experience working within a network of charter schools that prioritizes joy and equity.
Skills & Tools
Proficiency with Google Workspace, Student Information Systems, and Learning Management Systems.
