About the role
Marqeta is seeking a Technical Program Manager to join their growing team based in London, United Kingdom. This role centers on overseeing complex technical initiatives and coordinating cross-functional efforts to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within scope. The position demands strong organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple concurrent workstreams across diverse stakeholder groups and departments. Candidates will work in close partnership with engineering, product, and design teams to ensure alignment on project goals, milestones, and delivery expectations throughout each program cycle.

What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end planning and execution of technical programs across multiple teams and internal and external stakeholders.
- Define program scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with senior leadership and engineering leads.
- Track project milestones, identify risks early, and develop mitigation strategies to keep initiatives on schedule.
- Facilitate cross-functional communication between engineering, product management, design, and operations groups on a regular cadence to share updates and resolve questions.
- Create and maintain detailed project plans, status reports, and dashboards that provide leadership with clear visibility.
- Coordinate resource allocation and capacity planning to ensure all teams have what they need to succeed.
- Drive retrospective meetings and continuous improvement practices across all program delivery cycles and active workstreams.
- Manage dependencies between workstreams and resolve blockers that could delay critical path items or milestones.
- Support the onboarding and ramp-up of new team members joining the program and its activities.
- Ensure documentation standards are maintained and institutional knowledge is captured throughout the entire program lifecycle.
- Liaise with external vendors and partners when third-party contributions are required for successful delivery.
- Champion agile methodologies and help teams adopt iterative practices for better predictability and outcomes.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing technical programs in a fast-paced, product-driven technology environment of considerable scale and complexity.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and the ability to translate business needs into actionable technical plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clearly to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
- Proven track record of coordinating cross-functional teams and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and make sound decisions under conditions of ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Kanban and their practical application.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five years of experience in program management or a related discipline in a technology organization.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working in fintech or payments infrastructure is a strong advantage for this particular role.
- Professional certification in project management frameworks such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Scrum Master is valued here.
- Prior exposure to card issuing platforms or payment processing systems would be a beneficial addition.
- Background in managing programs that span multiple geographic regions or distributed cross-functional teams is helpful.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency with project management platforms such as Jira, Asana, or Monday.com for tracking work items and overall progress.
- Experience with data visualization tools for building dashboards and generating meaningful status reports for leadership.
- Familiarity with version control systems and software development workflows commonly used in engineering organizations.
- Comfort with spreadsheet applications for tracking budgets, timelines, resource allocation, and other key program metrics.
- Knowledge of collaboration tools like Confluence, Notion, or similar documentation platforms for maintaining team knowledge.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts and deployment pipelines is helpful for this technical program role.
