Senior Software Engineer, Frontend

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend to join Marqeta. In this role, you will lead the creation of card experiences for our platform. Your work will define how interfaces evolve across our web and native products. You will partner with design and product teams to shape the direction of embedded finance interactions. Precision and clarity will guide your contributions in this space.

This position operates within a remote framework for Ontario and British Columbia. Candidates living in the Greater Toronto Area or Metro Vancouver are preferred. Marqeta enables the foundations of modern financial services. You will play a critical part in that mission.

The Work You Will Do

You will architect reusable interface modules that allow product teams to deliver new card flows efficiently. Your focus will be on establishing a robust design system for web and native applications. You will ensure these systems remain consistent and scalable over time.

Performance will be a central responsibility. You will drive improvements for mobile web, concentrating on interactions and rendering on resource-limited devices. This involves deep optimization work to meet mobile constraints.

You will guide integration patterns between React Native and native iOS and Android code. Your goal will be to create resilient and maintainable bridges between platforms. This technical leadership will reduce friction in cross-platform development.

Collaboration with analytics and experimentation teams is essential. You will validate UI changes and analyze user behavior outcomes to refine digital products. Design critiques will be led by you to align stakeholders on usability standards. You will ensure long-term product coherence across all touchpoints.

Establishing testing and release practices is part of the role. You will implement processes that increase confidence in frontend changes. These practices will apply across diverse environments and deployment targets.

Mentoring other engineers is a key function. You will help them deliver high-quality code and foster sustainable development habits. You will define and maintain frontend roadmaps. This includes documenting decisions and dependencies for cross-functional clarity.

Security and compliance collaboration is required. You will work with security and compliance partners to ensure authentication flows meet industry standards. This work protects our users and our platform.

Qualifications Required

You bring a minimum of 5 years of experience shaping web and mobile interfaces. A strong focus on React Native in production environments is mandatory. Mastery of React Native is expected. This includes navigation patterns, Expo workflows, and native module integration for iOS and Android.

You possess a deep understanding of the React ecosystem. Your expertise includes Context, state management approaches, and component architecture. You build scalable solutions that serve complex product needs.

You optimize demanding interfaces using specific techniques. These include lazy loading, code splitting, and efficient rendering for mobile constraints. You handle RESTful APIs and GraphQL with resilience. You connect frontend logic to backend services securely and effectively.

You implement secure authentication flows. Your work will cover OAuth, biometric login, and session protection in digital products. You have experience with CI/CD tooling for mobile. This includes Fastlane, Bitrise, or App Center to automate builds and releases.

You communicate effectively with cross-functional partners. You work closely with design, product, and backend engineers. Your communication skills enable clear collaboration on complex initiatives.

Additional Experience

Experience with Swift or Kotlin is valuable. It helps deepen native integrations inside React Native modules. Domain exposure in payments or fintech provides context. You will understand transaction flows and compliance considerations in this role.

Tools and Compensation

Key tools for this role include React Native, React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS. Version control via Git is central to the workflow. CI/CD, Fastlane, Bitrise, and App Center are part of the toolkit.

The base salary range for this position is USD 165,000 to USD 230,000 per year. Location details are specific. The role is positioned in Toronto, Canada, and Vancouver, Canada. Engagement details allow for remote work within Ontario and British Columbia.
