About the role
You will lead the expansion and scaling of Marqeta's most impactful partnerships across larger Fintech, Financial Institution, banking, and embedded finance businesses in the UK and Europe. This role demands a critical, pre-existing understanding of the entire payments ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on the issuing side, to successfully navigate complex business and technical engagements. You will cultivate and manage relationships with executives and entrepreneurs who are seeking to innovate and disrupt B2B and consumer payments at scale. The position requires you to work closely with internal stakeholders in Product, Legal, Compliance, and Delivery to define solutions that empower our customers to launch, scale, and continuously evolve their banking products and services. This is a strategic role focused on originating new customer opportunities, responding to inbound interest, and shepherding deals from initial engagement through to contract execution and closing. Success in this position hinges on your ability to deeply understand and articulate Marqeta's technology and how it delivers tangible value within the market.

What you'll do
Drive enterprise and strategic level prospecting by identifying critical business needs and requirements within large financial institutions and fintech organizations.
Manage highly strategic customer opportunities through the full sales cycle, from initial discovery and complex pricing discussions to final contract negotiation and closure.
Leverage a deep, pre-existing understanding of the payments ecosystem, specifically card issuing infrastructure and market dynamics, to independently solve complex business challenges.
Utilize expert knowledge of Marqeta's technical capabilities and unique product features to communicate credible value propositions to revenue growth and technical stakeholders.
Originate new pipeline by sourcing and qualifying leads that align with the profile of large scale fintech innovators and traditional banking partners.
Respond to inbound requests for information, proposals, and security documentation, ensuring responses are timely, accurate, and aligned with our solution offering.
Partner with internal subject matter experts including Product, Legal, and Compliance to develop and deliver tailored proposals and responses to RFIs and RFPs.
Own the management of opportunities within Salesforce, providing accurate forecasting and demonstrating progression through defined sales stages.
Guide opportunities through the contracting process, collaborating closely with our Legal team to negotiate terms and execute agreements efficiently.
Champion the partnership vision by articulating how Marqeta's platform enables customers to launch, scale, and continuously evolve their card programmes effectively.
Requirements
Minimum of 10+ years of progressive sales experience, with a proven track record of success in complex B2B technology environments.
Mandatory Payments Expertise: A critical, demonstrable understanding of the payments ecosystem is essential for success in this role. We require candidates to possess deep payments and card experience, and no applicants with insufficient payments knowledge will be considered for this position.
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic sales environment where priorities can shift rapidly.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for executive audiences.
Strong aptitude for problem-solving and strategic thinking, with a history of developing creative solutions that address intricate customer challenges.
Proven experience in managing and exceeding demanding sales quotas and targets in a previous role.
Comfortable working autonomously and taking full ownership of complex deals with minimal direct supervision.
Experience selling sophisticated financial technology solutions to enterprise-level decision-makers within regulated industries.
Nice to have
Experience selling payment processing, issuing, or banking infrastructure solutions to large financial institutions or high-growth fintechs.
A background working with Marqeta's existing customers or partners within the European market.
Practical notes
This role offers hybrid flexibility. Candidates within commuting distance of our London (Holborn) office are expected in the office two days per week. For those based elsewhere in the UK, the position is fully remote.
