Project Controls Manager

About the role

You will manage project controls for large construction projects across the Western region. This position works in close partnership with Project Management and Regional Operations to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget. You will implement, train, and audit all project controls functions while supporting Project Managers with client facing and internal reporting.

Implement project controls processes from intake through closeout, shaping strategy for large builds.

Translate scope into control baselines before construction begins and maintain alignment with company standards.

Coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure workflows support safety and quality requirements.

Track schedule and cost performance, identify trends, and guide corrective actions to protect delivery dates and budgets.

Own P6 man-loaded schedules and cost-loaded forecasts, ensuring progress reporting follows credit rules.

Manage contract change control, billing packages, and forecasting updates for clients and leadership.

Facilitate cross-functional reviews to validate sequences, resources, and dependencies across teams.

Establish risk registers, document mitigations, and monitor cost, schedule, and scope impacts.

Prepare executive dashboards, presentations, and closeout deliverables to capture lessons for future partnerships.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of project controls experience in construction settings.

Demonstrated ability to implement and audit project controls functions.

Experience with P6 and schedule development for baseline management and updates.

Understanding of contracts, change orders, and billing rules to safeguard client relationships.

Strong written and verbal communication to lead cross-functional alignment under pressure.

Job duties

Interact with the Project Management team and corporate management team, participating in regular project meetings. Gather information and prepare reports and presentations as needed.

Identify and communicate design changes, scope changes, and schedule slippages along with potential impacts. Ensure cost and schedule trends are identified, manage change management processes, and suggest corrective actions.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams in project settings to ensure project controls members interface with engineering, procurement, contracts, and construction. Verify adherence to safety and quality standards.

Oversee project baseline processes for cost, schedule, and progress, ensuring all systems are implemented per process and company standards.

Ensure full implementation of company processes and procedures as well as industry best practices for project controls.

Establish risk management protocols, including identification, documentation, mitigation, and tracking of potential risks. Determine potential cost and schedule/progress impacts as risks are identified.

Ensure accuracy of reported progress percentages based on credit rules established within the project. Develop progress measurement processes for required scopes of work.

Establish and manage project schedule development, review, and update processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the overall master schedule.

Manage and ensure all project-required reporting is prepared and submitted per the approved reporting schedule.
