This individual is responsible for analyzing complex project information to produce data-driven estimates that balance risk and profitability while safeguarding margin integrity. The role demands a proactive partnership with project teams to translate technical drawings and specifications into comprehensive pricing packages that reflect real-world construction conditions. It requires a disciplined approach to gathering pay items, documenting extra work, and capturing off-narrative costs to prevent scope gaps and future claims. The estimator must maintain rigorous cost tracking and forecasting to protect cash flow and support timely billing decisions. The hire will report directly to the Chief Mechanical Estimator and operate as a key contributor within a broader estimating group focused on critical electrical, mechanical, structural, and soft crafts work.

What you'll do

• Interpret bid documents, drawings, and specifications to develop precise mechanical estimates that align with project scope and self-performance capabilities.
• Compile detailed takeoffs and quantifications using advanced Excel techniques to manipulate large datasets and validate material and labor assumptions.
• Gather and log pay item quantities, extra work records, and production data to maintain accurate historical databases for future estimating.
• Track project costs, yield statistics, and onsite inventory counts to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for margin improvement.
• Verify drawings and specifications early in the bid cycle to reduce rework and ensure proposals reflect the true scope of work.
• Submit accurate timecard entries and approvals to keep payroll and cost forecasts synchronized with project progress.
• Partner with cross-functional estimating teams to build complete proposal packages that are ready for timely client turnover.
• Log cycle times and production metrics from field operations to create reliable baseline data for future parametric estimates.
• Submit billing and financial reports that protect profit margins and support positive cash flow throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain daily project diaries that track task priorities, schedule changes, and decision points to improve forecast reliability.
• Conduct pre-bid and post-bid reviews that incorporate lessons learned to continuously refine estimating accuracy and competitiveness.
• Support field operations during critical phases to validate assumptions and confirm that estimates remain practical under real conditions.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrate strong Excel skills with an emphasis on complex data manipulation, modeling, and validation.
• Bring demonstrated construction experience to support practical judgment during bidding and negotiation.
• Exhibit a strong work ethic, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work in both office and field settings while adapting to a high-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Possess a valid driver's license and current proof of insurability as a condition of employment.
• Successfully pass a DMV background records search as part of the pre-hire screening process.
• Ability to endure exposure to extreme temperatures in outdoor and indoor work environments.
• Capability to operate in manufacturing and refining settings where industrial processes are present.
• Tolerance for confined spaces, noise levels above 85 decibels, and intense odors that may occur on project sites.
