Founding Designer
Job description
About the Role
Leap is currently seeking a Founding Designer to define the foundational visual and experiential language for how the organization presents itself to patients and families navigating specialty care. This is a unique opportunity to shape the patient-facing identity of a rapidly growing pioneer in employer specialty pharmacy. The role owns the design of patient-facing campaigns and communications that introduce Leap, build trust quickly, and clarify the path forward for members during often-stressful moments. You will be responsible for shaping the end-to-end patient experience from initial discovery through scheduling, onboarding, therapy support, adherence, and reactivation. The position demands fluid movement between strategic thinking and hands-on execution, translating ambiguous problems into clear, coherent structures and patterns. You will collaborate closely with Member Growth, care teams, clinical operations, product, and content to turn research insights into lower-friction, higher-impact experiences. Your work must balance the complexity of the healthcare category with simple, responsible messaging that avoids oversimplification or unnecessary anxiety. Ultimately, you will act as both a strategic creative lead and a hands-on maker, producing polished, production-ready assets that serve as the foundation for Leap's patient interactions.
What You'll Do
- Define Leap's patient-facing design standard. Establish the visual and interaction design language that ensures consistency, credibility, and humanity across all member touchpoints, including marketing, onboarding, education, therapy support, and reactivation.
- Design the end-to-end member journey. Map and optimize the patient experience in collaboration with Member Growth, care teams, clinical operations, product, and content. Identify points of confusion, skepticism, overwhelm, or drop-off, and translate these insights into clearer, lower-friction experiences across awareness, consult scheduling, onboarding, therapy support, adherence, and reactivation.
- Build the systems that let great design scale. Create reusable patterns, components, templates, QA processes, AI-assisted workflows, and production standards that unify design across web, email, direct mail, print, educational materials, and internal workflows.
- Improve member activation through high-performing creative. Design and optimize direct-response campaigns across direct mail, email, landing pages, paid ads, and multi-step funnels. Every decision will be tied to improving clarity, building trust, increasing conversion, and driving measurable action.
- Turn healthcare complexity into simple, responsible experiences. Translate clinically nuanced, emotionally sensitive, and operationally complex information into understandable and actionable experiences without oversimplifying, overpromising, or inducing unnecessary anxiety.
- Act as a creative lead and hands-on maker. Shape creative briefs, guide visual systems, improve message hierarchy, coordinate copy, illustration, motion, web, lifecycle campaigns, and vendor partners, while remaining closely involved in designing and producing polished, production-ready assets.
- Partner with Member Growth to design campaigns and communications. Focus on earning trust and driving the next step in the member journey through strategically designed touchpoints.
- Work with clinical operations to identify friction. Understand where patients encounter obstacles and translate these qualitative insights into streamlined, intuitive flows.
- Create unified design patterns and templates. Ensure consistency and efficiency across web, email, direct mail, print, educational materials, and internal processes.
- Design multi-step funnels and landing pages. Prioritize clarity, trust, conversion, and actionability within every member interaction.
Requirements
- A broad designer with strong patient/customer experience judgment. Demonstrated ability to simplify complexity, reduce friction, and build trust quickly for patients in stressful, high-consideration moments. You must have a strong record of designing for lifecycle marketing, member engagement, patient education, or other high-consideration consumer decisions.
- Strong product, UX, and research instincts. Proven capability in mapping customer journeys, structuring information, designing flows, conducting user interviews, and translating qualitative insights into improved experiences.
- Direct response and conversion fluency. Experience designing high-performing creative for direct-response channels, including multi-channel funnels, landing pages, and campaigns where clarity and action are critical.
- Fluency in modern design production. Expertise across web, email, direct mail, and print environments, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with copywriters, researchers, product managers, and front-end developers.
- Strategic collaboration and communication. Comfort communicating with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders to align on goals, constraints, and measures of success.
- A portfolio demonstrating impact. Showcased work in healthcare, benefits, or complex B2C environments that highlights sustained effort and measurable outcomes in member growth, activation, or trust-building.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in specialty pharmacy, infusion services, or highly regulated healthcare environments.
- Background in direct-response creative, multi-channel funnels, and conversion optimization specific to member acquisition.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design workflows and production automation to scale output without sacrificing quality.
- Experience building and maintaining reusable design systems and component libraries at scale.
- Work history in benefits administration, employer-sponsored healthcare, or payroll-linked experiences that provide contextual familiarity with the target audience.
