About the role
You will lead the global financial crime and conduct audit program for a multi-jurisdictional, regulated crypto enterprise. In this capacity, you will own the evaluation of control design and operating effectiveness for AML/CFT, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, market integrity, and conduct risk. You will act as a key partner to Internal Audit leadership, shaping the risk-based audit strategy and ensuring rigorous oversight of high-visibility areas. This position requires hands-on involvement in executing audits, driving issue remediation, and maintaining strict independence while managing stakeholder expectations. You will leverage evolving audit methodologies and emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to enhance the depth and efficiency of assurance activities. The role is critical to maintaining the integrity of financial operations and safeguarding the firm against regulatory and reputational harm. You will be instrumental in building the future of open finance by providing objective assurance on some of the most complex risk domains in the industry.

What you'll do
- Lead audits across financial crime compliance, including anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, sanctions programs, and anti-bribery and corruption, as well as conduct and market integrity risk, across multiple jurisdictions and diverse regulatory regimes.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments to identify key areas of financial crime exposure and prioritize audit coverage in line with the firm's risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
- Design and execute robust control testing across business units and compliance functions, evaluating both the design and operating effectiveness of critical controls.
- Assess the effectiveness of conduct and market integrity controls, including market abuse prevention frameworks, surveillance mechanisms, personal account dealing policies, conflicts of interest management, and consumer protection measures.
- Shape and contribute to multi-year audit plans that are aligned with the firm's evolving financial crime and conduct risk profile across all operating regions.
- Lead the application of AI-enabled auditing, applying generative AI, agentic workflows, and advanced data analytics across the audit lifecycle to expand testing coverage, sharpen risk targeting, and improve overall efficiency.
- Lead multiple concurrent audit engagements from planning through fieldwork and reporting, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery against defined scopes and objectives.
- Document audit findings with clear identification of control gaps and root causes, and draft well-supported workpapers and reports that communicate results effectively.
- Track and validate the remediation of identified issues, escalating persistent delays or control weaknesses to Internal Audit leadership as required.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of audit methodologies, frameworks, and quality assurance processes, ensuring strict conformance with the IIA Global Internal Audit Standards and internal function requirements.
- Lead and develop engagement teams, including the coordination and deployment of co-sourced resources, to ensure quality, consistency, and timely delivery of audit objectives.
- Partner proactively with stakeholders across Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, and business units to communicate audit results and provide actionable recommendations on control enhancements.
- Present clear findings, recommendations, and emerging risk themes to senior stakeholders, including senior management, the Audit Committee, and regulators where applicable.
- Provide support during regulatory examinations and enforcement-related follow-up activities specifically related to financial crime and conduct risk areas.
- Monitor emerging financial crime typologies, sanctions regimes, conduct expectations, and regulatory guidance across the jurisdictions relevant to the firm's global operations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in internal audit, or a combination of audit and financial crimes compliance roles, within financial services.
- Direct experience assessing or auditing financial crime compliance programs, including anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting financial crime and conduct risk audits within a regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of relevant financial crime regulatory frameworks and supervisory expectations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Solid understanding of audit standards, quality assurance practices, and the professional internal audit role.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead audit engagements in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk and control issues to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulations and emerging risk indicators.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining independence, objectivity, and professional skepticism in all audit activities.
- Ability to work effectively across diverse teams and with external service providers and co-sourced partners.
- Willingness to engage with evolving technologies and methodologies, including the use of data analytics and AI tools in an audit context.
- Capacity to travel in accordance with business needs and to manage engagements across different time zones and regulatory contexts.
