Regional Math Instructional Coach

About the role

The Regional Math Instructional Coach serves as a critical instructional leader within the KIPP SoCal network, driving excellence in mathematics education across multiple school sites. This position owns the instructional health of math classrooms by providing targeted guidance that helps teachers meet their professional goals through honest feedback and shared, research-based routines. The coach is a visible leader who challenges existing practices while fiercely protecting joyful, student-centered learning environments. Success in this role is defined by the ability to drive measurable improvements in student achievement, with a focused emphasis on strengthening outcomes for students in grades K-8. Every instructional strategy and support system is designed to deliver an equitable, inclusive, rigorous, and diverse mathematical experience for every scholar. The coach plays a key role in building sustainable systems that ensure all students receive high-quality, standards-aligned mathematics instruction. This role requires a commitment to collaboration, data-driven decision making, and continuous improvement in partnership with teachers and school leaders. • Build instructional capacity across multiple schools through structured coaching cycles that specifically address gaps in math understanding and student misconceptions.
• Conduct thorough reviews of classroom evidence to identify educator strengths and define clear, actionable next steps for professional growth.
• Implement improved teaching strategies that raise student performance across several schools and multiple grade levels within the network.
• Partner with families and communities to ensure that math learning remains relevant, accessible, and culturally responsive for every scholar.
• Coordinate with school leaders to align math resources, timelines, and support structures to facilitate sustainable, long-term change.
• Drive the development and execution of observation protocols that capture growth in instructional practice over time, providing meaningful data for coaching.
• Champion equity in math access to ensure that diverse learners experience rigorous, inclusive lessons that meet their unique needs daily.
• Utilize proficiency with Google Workspace and Student Information Systems to manage data, communicate effectively, and support instructional initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning for Math to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Serve as a liaison between school leadership, teaching staff, and district partners to foster a cohesive approach to math instruction.

Requirements

• Hold a valid teaching credential or equivalent qualification that permits instruction in the state of California.
• Possess a minimum of three years of experience in math instruction or coaching within public education settings.
• Demonstrate deep, proven knowledge of math standards and a toolkit of proven methods for improving student results.
• Commit to an annual schedule that runs from August 2026 through June 2029 without interruption or significant gaps in service.
• Be eligible to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship or external work authorization support.
• Maintain a strong commitment to the KIPP SoCal mission of creating joyful, academically excellent schools that equip students with the skills and confidence to pursue their chosen paths.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning to stay current with best practices in mathematics education and instructional coaching.
• Apply a collaborative mindset when working with teachers, administrators, and families to build trust and drive instructional improvement.

Nice to have

• Prior experience supporting teachers with specific math curricula is preferred.
