About the role
The owns the end-to-end employee lifecycle for assigned schools, acting as the primary steward of talent management within the assigned Local Education Agency. This role owns the design and execution of performance management systems, ensuring that courageous conversations about adult behavior translate into tangible growth for school leaders. You own the strategic interpretation of people data and translate analytics into actionable coaching that drives instructional leadership and student outcomes. The position owns the full spectrum of human resources functions, from recruitment and onboarding to separation activities, all while maintaining compliance with district and state regulations. You own the development of a high-trust culture where psychological safety and rigorous accountability coexist to support adult and student success. This role owns the partnership with union representatives and coordinates with central office teams to align school-level needs with organizational priorities. You own the implementation of change management initiatives that support new instructional models and school improvement efforts. Finally, this position owns the documentation and communication of policies to ensure transparency and equity across all schools in the assigned region.

What you'll do
Establish deep trust with school leaders through consistent presence in East LA, South LA, and Southeast LA communities.
Conduct proactive analysis of teacher and leader performance data to identify trends and root causes of instructional gaps.
Coach building leaders on high-stakes performance conversations using structured protocols and adult learning theory.
Design and deliver targeted professional learning experiences that address specific gaps in leadership capacity.
Partner with school leadership teams to co-create action plans that align teacher development with student achievement goals.
Serve as the primary liaison between schools and central office human resources functions.
Implement talent management strategies that ensure equitable access to high-quality educators across all assigned schools.
Champion the collection and interpretation of qualitative data from classroom observations and feedback cycles.
Drive the documentation and rollout of school-level policies to ensure consistency with KIPP SoCal standards.
Facilitate collaborative workshops that strengthen team dynamics and improve communication among school staff.
Monitor compliance with district, state, and federal regulations related to personnel policies and employment law.
Leverage HRIS systems to maintain accurate and confidential employee records for all assigned schools.
Coordinate recruitment efforts to attract diverse candidates who align with the organization's mission and values.
Support the evaluation and onboarding processes to ensure a seamless transition for new teachers and staff.
Requirements
Demonstrate a proven commitment to educational equity and the mission of KIPP SoCal Public Schools.
Possess a deep understanding of adult learning theory and its application in school-based settings.
Show a track record of coaching instructional leaders through complex performance and culture challenges.
Have experience working within a unionized environment and navigating collective bargaining agreements.
Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate data into compelling narratives.
Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive personnel information.
Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic school environment.
Commit to frequent presence in schools and regular attendance at KIPP SoCal office in Downtown Los Angeles.
Nice to have
Experience with data visualization tools to present insights to diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of school finance and budgeting processes within charter school environments.
Familiarity with teacher evaluation frameworks and instructional coaching models.
Experience supporting school culture initiatives focused on joy, community, and anti-racist practices.
Understanding of the unique needs of alumni and college persistence programs.
Practical notes
This role requires frequent presence inside our schools in East LA, South LA, and Southeast LA, meeting attendance at our KIPP SoCal office in Downtown LA, and, occasionally, opportunities to work remotely in Southern California.
