What you'll do

• Develop detailed cost estimates for highway and bridge construction projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all bids.
• Analyze project plans and specifications to identify potential risks and opportunities, providing insights to the project management team.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for comprehensive estimates.
• Prepare and present bid proposals to management, highlighting key aspects of the project and justifying cost estimates.
• Monitor and evaluate project costs throughout the construction phase, making adjustments as necessary to stay within budget.
• Conduct market research to stay informed about material costs, labor rates, and industry trends that could affect project pricing.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements and conditions.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project documentation for future reference and analysis.
• Assist in the development of project schedules and timelines, ensuring alignment between cost estimates and project deliverables.
• Mentor junior estimators and provide guidance on best practices in cost estimation and project analysis.

• Support the business development team by providing technical expertise during client presentations and negotiations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for highway and bridge construction projects.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar applications.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards related to highway and bridge projects.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to clearly convey complex information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also demonstrating strong independent problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations governing highway and bridge construction.
• Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• Professional certification such as Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or similar credentials.
• Experience with project management software, such as Primavera or Microsoft Project.
• Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and materials.
• Previous experience working with government contracts or public sector projects.
• Bilingual capabilities, particularly in Spanish, to enhance communication with diverse teams and clients.

Skills & tools

The ideal candidate will be proficient in various estimating software and tools, including but not limited to Bluebeam, PlanSwift, and Microsoft Excel. Strong mathematical skills and a solid understanding of construction principles are essential.
