What you'll do

• Spearhead the creation and execution of intricate data models, which include ontology objects and dimensional frameworks, to accurately depict business processes and operations.
• Collaborate closely with both product and business stakeholders to convert their goals into actionable and well-defined technical strategies.
• Assume complete responsibility for key data projects, leveraging your expertise in semantic modeling and architectural design to deliver impactful results.
• Maintain consistency and interoperability of data models throughout the organization by ensuring alignment with universally accepted definitions for core entities.
• Establish and advocate for best practices in data modeling, including naming conventions and reference implementations, to enhance the quality of your team's output.
• Champion the principles of treating data as a product, emphasizing ownership, clear contracts, thorough documentation, and reliability in all deliverables produced by your team.
• Collaborate with data engineers to define data contracts and establish pipelines, ensuring that clean data is seamlessly integrated into ontology objects.
• Enhance the technical skills of your team through design reviews, collaborative work sessions, and mentorship opportunities.
• Guide the integration of AI tools, such as Claude and Claude Code, into analytics engineering tasks, and design data models that facilitate AI utilization.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence engineering, or data modeling, with a track record of leading complex, cross-functional data initiatives.
• In-depth understanding of semantic and data modeling methodologies, with the ability to select the most suitable approach (ontology-driven, dimensional, or hybrid) for various projects.
• Hands-on experience with ontology or object-based semantic layers, or a strong foundation in relevant modeling skills and a desire to specialize further.
• Proficiency in dimensional modeling for business intelligence and reporting, building upon established source-of-truth models.
• Familiarity with concepts such as data mesh, data-as-a-product, and domain-oriented architectures, or a well-considered viewpoint on decentralized data ownership.
• Experience with contemporary lakehouse platforms, like Databricks, utilized as collaborative, self-service data environments.
• Proven ability to provide technical guidance and influence teams without direct authority, fostering credibility and clarity in communication.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in navigating complex situations, trade-offs, and differing opinions.
• Comfort and familiarity with AI tools, including Claude, Claude Code, and Databricks-native AI, for everyday analytics engineering tasks.

Nice to have

• Experience with programming in Python, utilizing Git-based workflows, or working with transformation frameworks such as SQLMesh or dbt.
• Background in using Foundry Pipeline Builder/Functions or expertise in large-scale performance optimization.
