About the role
You will own the end to end management of indirect tax initiatives across domestic and international operations for a leading EdTech company. This role requires you to identify complex tax issues, research emerging regulations, and translate technical findings into clear business recommendations. You will leverage your deep indirect tax expertise to add strategic value while operating in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment. The position demands proactive problem solving and ownership of cross functional projects from design through execution. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for indirect tax matters affecting global expansion and product launches.

What you'll do
You will manage the full lifecycle of indirect tax compliance activities, overseeing U.S. sales tax, international VAT and GST, excise tax, and property tax filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness. You will lead taxability analysis, monitor nexus thresholds, conduct indirect tax exposure assessments, coordinate ASC 450 evaluations, and execute statute of limitations reviews. You will maintain and enhance indirect tax configurations within core systems to support precise tax calculation, reporting integrity, and operational efficiency. You will review and validate exemption certificates along with all supporting documentation to confirm compliance and reduce audit risk. You will partner cross functionally with Accounting, Engineering, Product, and other business teams to enable business expansion, new product development, system implementations, and continuous process improvements. You will lead the collection of evidence, respond to indirect tax audits and regulatory inquiries, perform technical research, and coordinate audit defense activities. You will manage indirect tax reconciliations, oversee related GL account activity, and coordinate relationships with external advisors and service providers to ensure alignment. You will define and improve indirect tax policies and procedures to support scalability, consistency, and regulatory adherence. You will stay current on indirect tax legislative changes and industry trends to proactively advise the business on potential impacts.
Requirements
You hold a BA or BS degree from an accredited institution as a baseline educational requirement. You bring at least 4 plus years of relevant compliance experience gained in a public accounting firm or within the tax function of a multinational corporation. You possess basic Federal, State and Local, and International tax knowledge as a core competency for this position. You demonstrate strong multitasking, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills to operate effectively in a dynamic setting. You have hands on experience with U.S. sales tax compliance processes, including filings and remittance activities. You have experience working with SaaS, digital products, marketplace facilitator, or e-commerce business models to understand their tax implications. You are comfortable working with large datasets from multiple systems and data sources, applying strong analytical skills to derive actionable insights. You have experience with tax engines, ERP systems, and indirect tax system or process improvements using platforms such as Vertex, NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar. You are proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on advanced Excel usage for modeling and reporting. You communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, adapting your style for executives and technical stakeholders. You hold a CPA certification as a preferred qualification in this role. You have foreign indirect tax experience which may include compliance, registration, or audit support as a valuable asset. You have experience with IT systems implementation projects related to transactional taxes and change management. You show a willingness to learn and rapidly deploy technology solutions to address various tax responsibilities.

Your background includes exposure to multiple indirect tax jurisdictions and complex compliance scenarios. You have worked with automated tax calculation and filing workflows in high volume environments. You have experience leading cross functional initiatives that require coordination across technical and business teams. You have a demonstrated history of managing audit responses and regulatory examinations efficiently. You are familiar with sales tax economic nexus rules and their application in fast growing technology companies. You have knowledge of exemption certificate management best practices and documentation standards.
