Multi-Skilled Engineer
Job description
Multi-Skilled Engineer at Irca Group.
About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of mechanical and electrical asset integrity for critical production lines, driving reliability through precise diagnostics and methodical repairs. This position places you at the heart of continuous manufacturing, where your decisions directly impact product quality and operational safety. You will partner daily with cross-functional teams, translating complex technical issues into clear actions that keep production flowing. Expect to operate with autonomy, using your judgment to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment that values initiative. Your work will support the group's international footprint, exposing you to diverse equipment standards and industrial practices. You will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying root causes and proposing robust solutions that prevent recurring failures. This role demands comfort with ambiguity, as you manage varied assignments across extrusion, chocolate coating, and bakery systems. By maintaining a disciplined approach to documentation and communication, you will ensure knowledge transfer and operational consistency across shifts.
Key facts
What you'll do
Execute systematic breakdown repairs on extrusion lines, chocolate coating equipment, and bakery machinery, restoring functionality within agreed downtime targets.
Perform planned maintenance activities, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement, to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints to isolate faults and verify that repairs meet technical specifications.
Conduct thorough diagnostic testing using handheld tools and measurement instruments to validate the performance of motors, drives, and mechanical assemblies.
Service mechanical components such as gearboxes, bearings, seals, and conveyors, ensuring alignment, tension, and lubrication are optimized for continuous operation.
Troubleshoot variable frequency drives and motor controllers, applying inverter and PLC knowledge to resolve process interruptions and process anomalies.
Implement corrective and preventive maintenance strategies, tracking historical data to anticipate failures and schedule interventions proactively.
Collaborate with production operators, technicians, and engineering colleagues to coordinate repairs, share insights, and standardize best practices.
Support improvement projects aimed at enhancing equipment design, ergonomics, and maintainability across multiple production lines.
Document all work activities, including fault findings, parts usage, and procedural lessons, to sustain a reliable knowledge base for future troubleshooting.
Adhere to safety protocols, permit-to-work systems, and lockout-tagout procedures, ensuring a zero-incident environment for yourself and others.
Utilize computerized maintenance systems to update work orders, log inventory, and track spare parts availability with accuracy and timeliness.
Act as a technical resource for operators, providing guidance on basic fault identification and safe handling of equipment issues.
Requirements
You hold a relevant engineering qualification or an apprenticeship background in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic disciplines.
You possess demonstrable experience in mechanical fault diagnosis, including bearings, shafts, couplings, and drive systems.
You have hands-on proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, interpreting wiring diagrams, and using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and test equipment.
You are comfortable working with PLC systems and inverter technology, applying logic checks and parameter verification to resolve faults.
You have a proven track record of performing maintenance and repairs in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
You understand the principles of safety management, including risk assessments, method statements, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
You communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, adapting your style for technical colleagues and operational teams.
You are physically capable of performing manual handling tasks, working at height when necessary, and enduring night shifts in a demanding production context.
Nice to have
Experience with extrusion, chocolate coating, or bakery processing equipment is advantageous, given the specific nature of the production assets.
Familiarity with food manufacturing environments, including hygiene standards and washdown procedures, supports seamless integration into the facility.
