The Position
The organization is currently seeking a dependable and multi-skilled Shift Engineer to integrate into its team. The ideal candidate must demonstrate confidence across both mechanical and electrical domains. Possessing experience with PLC systems and inverters will be regarded as an advantage. Success in this role requires self-sufficiency and a proactive attitude, whether working independently or within a collaborative team setting.
Key responsibilities involve repairing and maintaining a diverse range of extrusion, chocolate coating, and bakery machinery. This work spectrum encompasses breakdown repairs, scheduled machine servicing, and active improvement initiatives. The position adheres to a Continental pattern encompassing three day shifts and two night shifts, with an average weekly commitment of 42 hours spanning Monday through Sunday, which includes weekend and bank holiday work.
Compensation and Location
The position is based in Peterborough, United Kingdom. It is offered as a permanent, full-time engagement with an annual compensation package of £40,000.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification or its equivalent in either maintenance engineering or electrical engineering. Demonstrated experience within Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environments is essential. A strong understanding of pneumatic systems utilized in bakery and gelato ingredient lines is required. Familiarity with the IEE 18th Edition regulations for electrical installations is desirable.

Key Responsibilities
Your core duties will focus on managing the full lifecycle of equipment. You will troubleshoot mechanical faults and execute electrical repairs for bakery machinery. You will perform breakdown maintenance on extrusion lines and coating apparatus. Adjusting control parameters within PLC devices and inverter units will be routine. Examining plant layouts to enhance production flow efficiency is expected. You will coordinate duties independently and within crew structures during designated shift patterns. Testing final outputs to ensure compliance with quality standards is a critical function. Collaboration with global colleagues on international project requirements will occur. Documenting all maintenance activities for future service teams is also required.

What you'll do
- Execute scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks on extrusion, chocolate coating, and bakery machinery to minimize production downtime.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults using systematic troubleshooting methodologies during shift operations.
- Perform precise assembly of components for chocolate machinery and bakery systems to meet technical specifications.
- Implement adjustments to control parameters on PLC devices and inverters to optimize machine performance and product quality.
- Conduct breakdown maintenance on extrusion lines and coating apparatus to restore operational functionality efficiently.
- Analyze plant layouts and workflow patterns to identify opportunities for enhancing production flow and operational efficiency.

Requirements
- Hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent in maintenance engineering or electrical engineering as a minimum formal credential.
- Possess demonstrable experience working within Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) production or maintenance environments.
- Exhibit a strong understanding of pneumatic systems as they are applied in bakery and gelato ingredient manufacturing lines.
- Show familiarity with the IEE 18th Edition regulations governing electrical installations in industrial settings.
- Capability to work autonomously with a high degree of self-motivation and responsibility during assigned shifts.
