What you'll do

• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems associated with water and wastewater operations.
• Perform installation and upgrades of equipment and systems, including pumps, valves, and control systems, to enhance operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to assist in the planning and execution of facility upgrades and new construction projects.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to emergency calls related to water and wastewater systems, providing timely and effective solutions to minimize service disruptions.
• Assist in the training and mentoring of junior staff and apprentices, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
• Utilize various tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment, to perform maintenance tasks effectively.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in water and wastewater management.
• Support environmental initiatives by promoting sustainable practices within the water and wastewater operations.
• Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication across the organization.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater maintenance or a related field.
• Proven expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a strong understanding of water treatment processes.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, as travel to various job sites may be required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals related to water and wastewater systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with team members and stakeholders.
• Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.

Nice to have

• Certifications related to water and wastewater operations, such as a Class A or B Water/Wastewater Operator License.
• Experience with SCADA systems and other automation technologies used in water management.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance standards specific to the water and wastewater industry.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and practices, including OSHA regulations.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Familiarity with computer software for maintenance management, including CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
• Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to water and wastewater systems.
• Ability to work with various stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, contractors, and community members.
