About the role
Bamboohr is seeking a dedicated TUG Engineer to join our team in Georgetown, Georgetown. This permanent position is crucial for the operational success of our Oko Barge Landing project. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our tugboats, contributing to the overall success of our marine logistics and transportation efforts. Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee the daily operations of tugboats, ensuring they are maintained and operated in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on tugboats to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met.
- Collaborate with marine crews to coordinate the safe towing of barges and other vessels, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
- Develop and implement operational procedures for tugboat operations, focusing on safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance.
- Analyze operational data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide training and guidance to crew members on best practices for tugboat operation and safety protocols.
- Act as the primary point of contact for any technical issues related to tugboats, troubleshooting problems and coordinating repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and operational activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings and drills, promoting a culture of safety within the marine operations team.
- Liaise with other departments, such as logistics and project management, to ensure seamless integration of marine operations with overall project goals.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and technologies related to tugboat operations and marine logistics.
- Assist in the development of budgets and forecasts related to tugboat operations, ensuring cost-effective management of resources.
Requirements
- A degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tugboat operations or marine engineering, with a strong understanding of marine systems and equipment.
- Proven track record of managing marine operations, with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with marine safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by operational needs.
- Valid maritime certifications and licenses as required for the position.
- Proficiency in using marine engineering software and tools for operational analysis and reporting.
Nice to have
- Experience with barge operations and logistics in a mining or resource extraction environment.
- Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices in marine operations.
