Gmining Ventures is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mine Engineer to join our dynamic team in Georgetown, Georgetown. This position is a fixed-term expatriate role at our Oko West site, where you will play a crucial part in the planning and execution of mining operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mine engineering, a passion for optimizing mining processes, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship. You will be responsible for leading engineering projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that our mining operations meet both production and sustainability goals.

What you'll do
- Lead the design and implementation of mine plans, ensuring they align with operational and safety standards.
- Conduct geological assessments and resource evaluations to inform mining strategies and optimize extraction processes.
- Collaborate with geologists, surveyors, and other engineers to develop comprehensive mine designs that maximize resource recovery while minimizing environmental impact.
- Oversee the preparation of technical reports and documentation required for regulatory compliance and stakeholder communication.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of mining operations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Participate in risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential operational challenges and hazards.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a safe working environment for all personnel on site.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and local communities, to ensure transparent communication and foster positive relationships.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and enhance operational performance.
- Prepare and manage budgets for engineering projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions are implemented without compromising quality.
- Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for the mine, aligning engineering initiatives with corporate goals and objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in mine engineering, with a proven track record in open-pit or underground mining operations.
- Strong knowledge of mining software and tools, such as Surpac, MineSight, or similar applications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, execution, and monitoring of mining projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in the mining industry.
- Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to a challenging work environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or equivalent certification.
- Experience with mine closure and rehabilitation planning.
- Knowledge of advanced mining technologies, such as automation and remote sensing.
- Multilingual abilities, particularly in French or Spanish, are a plus.
- Previous experience working in expatriate roles or international mining projects.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in mining engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Deswik, or similar).
- Strong understanding of geological modeling and resource estimation techniques.
- Familiarity with health and safety management systems in mining operations.
- Competence in financial modeling and budget management for engineering projects.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills for technical documentation.
