About the role
You will be responsible for all hiring and performance management topics on the Engineering side, helping your engineers reach their full potential in a fast-moving environment. You will partner closely with your peers and stakeholders to shape the roadmap and portfolio allocation, and drive high-impact delivery for the organization. You will build and maintain opinionated paved paths and abstraction layers for mission teams, ensuring that technical and project plans are aligned with stakeholder expectations. You will champion platform engineering principles and operational excellence across the wider engineering organization, fostering a culture of reliability and ownership. Your work will directly support the infrastructure that powers unique travel experiences trusted by millions of travelers. You will help enable engineers to move fast, take risks, and experiment with confidence through robust abstractions and self-service tooling.

What you'll do
Shape the technical roadmap and portfolio allocation in close collaboration with peers and stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
Own the hiring lifecycle and performance management processes, driving growth, development, and career progression for engineering teams.
Design, build, and maintain opinionated paved paths and abstraction layers that reduce friction for mission teams across the organization.
Champion platform engineering principles, operational excellence, and reliability practices across all engineering functions.
Provide strong technical leadership in a cloud native environment based on AWS, Kubernetes, and Istio.
Enable teams to ship safely and quickly by creating self-service tooling and clear architectural guardrails.
Act as a technical product owner for internal platform products, balancing tradeoffs and prioritizing based on impact.
Support the scalability and resilience of the platform as the organization grows to over 500 engineers.
Promote a culture of learning, coaching, and mentorship to help engineers reach their full potential without micromanagement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and improved developer experience.
Drive the adoption of best practices across the engineering organization through clear communication and visible success stories.
Evaluate new tools and technologies, running experiments where appropriate to validate improvements at scale.
Ensure that platform investments deliver measurable outcomes in speed, stability, and developer satisfaction.
Represent the Infrastructure Platform team in broader engineering discussions to ensure alignment and shared understanding.
Requirements
You have a strong sense of ownership, ensuring that technical and project plans are aligned with your stakeholders and team members for delivery.
You enjoy approaching complex topics with an open mind and an eye for simplicity, turning messy problems into clear solutions.
You have a passion for people, supporting and coaching your engineers without slipping into micromanagement.
You bring strong technical experience in a cloud native platform engineering environment, with deep knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and Istio.
You have experience working in a scale-up or high-growth environment, taking projects from zero to one and scaling them across an organization.
You have experience building platforms for 500+ engineer organizations and operating them at scale.
You have operated as a technical product manager or owner, particularly for internal platform products serving engineering customers.
You are comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations while balancing technical integrity with business needs.
