About the role
You will establish and lead the tax function at Gamma, reporting directly to the Director of Accounting. With a rapidly expanding user base worldwide and a growing B2B segment, your focus will be on managing global indirect tax, income tax provisions, corporate filings, and local compliance. This role involves shaping tax strategy, overseeing compliance schedules, and collaborating with external advisors, while remaining actively involved in technical tax work. The position emphasizes building scalable tax processes and leveraging automation and AI to streamline operations.

What you'll do
- Lead Gamma's global tax function in collaboration with the Director of Accounting, managing the overall tax calendar and external advisor relationships
- Oversee indirect tax obligations across the company's self-serve and enterprise offerings, including US sales and use tax, international VAT, GST, and digital services taxes
- Manage quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740, reviewing corporate income tax returns and estimated payments prepared by external advisors
- Handle local tax obligations such as franchise, property, gross receipts, and business licenses, ensuring proper controls, documentation, and audit readiness
- Provide guidance on international expansion strategies, entity structuring, transfer pricing, and equity compensation as Gamma grows globally
- Develop scalable tax processes and implement tax technology solutions, utilizing AI and automation to maintain efficiency as complexity increases
- Maintain compliance with global indirect tax regulations, including nexus analysis, registrations, and filings
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and ensure timely, accurate filings and reporting
- Stay current with evolving tax laws and regulations affecting SaaS and digital products internationally
- Support audits and respond to tax authority inquiries with thorough documentation and controls
- Contribute to the company's growth by advising on tax implications of new markets, products, and business models
Requirements
- Active CPA license and a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive tax and accounting experience, including roles in Big Four public accounting and in-house positions
- Strong technical expertise in ASC 740 tax provisions, multi-state corporate income tax, and US sales and use tax compliance
- In-depth knowledge of global indirect taxes such as VAT, GST, and digital services taxes for SaaS or digital products sold internationally
- Proven experience creating tax processes, controls, and documentation from scratch, and managing external advisors
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on with limited oversight
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex tax issues to non-tax partners
- Enthusiasm for AI tools and a track record of automating manual tax processes
- Experience with tax technology platforms like Anrok, Avalara, or Vertex (Nice to have)
- Transfer pricing or international structuring experience (Nice to have)
- Experience working at a high-growth SaaS or AI company (Nice to have)

- Master's degree in Taxation or related advanced certification
- Experience with international tax planning and structuring
- Familiarity with high-growth technology companies and their unique tax challenges

- The position offers a salary range of $190K - $240K plus benefits and equity
