As part of a deliberately lean finance team, the Senior Accountant will serve as the operational engine behind core accounting functions. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a highly autonomous generalist to manage multiple aspects of accounting, support automation initiatives, and contribute to the company's financial integrity. Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting, you will be responsible for owning general ledger accounting and financial reporting processes, including month-end close activities, preparing financial statements, and supporting investor and management reporting. The role emphasizes ownership, speed, and accuracy, with a focus on leveraging automation and AI to streamline routine tasks. The Senior Accountant will also play a key role in supporting the company's ERP implementation, helping to migrate data and optimize processes post-go-live. The position is based on-site in San Francisco, with a strong in-office culture, working 4-5 days per week in the office, with some flexibility for remote work when focus is needed.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Own the entire month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, conducting flux analysis, and performing balance sheet and cash reconciliations to ensure a timely, accurate US GAAP close each month
- Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial statements, along with supporting schedules, for management review and investor reporting purposes
- Manage general corporate accounting functions such as prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, leases, stock-based compensation, and payroll, working closely with the Director of Accounting on revenue and deferred revenue entries
- Oversee daily accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and travel & expense (T&E) activities, reviewing and approving vendor bills, expense reimbursements, and cash receipts, with routine tasks handled by automation workflows
- Support external audits by preparing requested documentation (PBC) and maintaining internal controls and process documentation for your areas of responsibility
- Play a key role in supporting the ongoing ERP implementation, including data migration, testing, and post-go-live optimization, utilizing AI and automation tools to reduce manual work and shorten the close cycle
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve accounting processes, implement automation solutions, and support company growth initiatives
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP standards and internal policies across all accounting activities
- Maintain accurate records of internal controls and process documentation to support audit readiness and ongoing compliance
- Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and improve efficiency through AI and other technological solutions
- Support ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests from leadership and investors as needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting workflows, leveraging technology to enhance speed and accuracy
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2-3 years in industry corporate accounting roles, with full cycle responsibilities under US GAAP
- Proven ability to independently manage multiple accounting areas with a proactive, owner mindset
- Experience preparing financial statements for management and investor reporting, with a solid understanding of external audit processes
- Hands-on proficiency in Excel, with experience working with QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI tools and a track record of automating manual processes to improve efficiency
- CPA or CPA-eligible, with a background that may include Big Four experience combined with industry roles
- Knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting standards and SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Experience supporting or participating in ERP implementation projects is a plus
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment

- Prior experience with SaaS revenue recognition standards (ASC 606)

The company offers a competitive salary range of $140,000 to $180,000, depending on experience and qualifications, along with benefits and equity.
