Electrical Engineer
Job description
About the role
You advance pulsed power technology and operate at the limits of what is possible, building core hardware for a fusion energy company. You tackle a monumental challenge on a mission driven team that owns objectives from 0 to
1. The work requires humility, creativity, and tenacity.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Design and iterate schematics and PCB layouts using Altium designer or equivalent tools to define electrical implementations for pulsed power systems.
Build and validate electronic circuits with Spice simulation to verify performance and robustness before hardware is deployed.
Configure and manage Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems so that test and measurement data are reliable and actionable for engineering decisions.
Select, integrate, and calibrate sensors to acquire accurate electrical and physical signals during pulsed power experiments.
Collaborate with hardware and engineering partners across bi-coastal teams to align on goals and deliver results for magical unicorn and faeton I.
Travel as required to support project timelines and operational needs across locations.
Work extended hours and weekends as needed during critical development and test milestones.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or demonstrate equivalent practical experience.
Possess 1+ years' experience designing schematics and PCB layouts in Altium designer or equivalent software.
Bring 1+ years' experience simulating electronic circuits using Spice tools.
Show 1+ years' proven experience configuring and managing Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems.
Demonstrate knowledge of sensors and calibration techniques relevant to measurement and control systems.
Prove experience working on a team and delivering measurable results in demanding technical environments.
Be able to travel and work extended hours or weekends when project needs require it.
Practical notes
This role requires U.S. citizenship or equivalent authorization due to ITAR regulations.
You will join a small team operating in an early-stage fusion company with high ownership and fast learning.
Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Fusion energy development relies on pulsed power hardware and precise control of sensors and measurements.
Impedance Matched Marx Generators and related pulsed power systems demand careful design, simulation, and calibration.
Roles in advanced hardware often require cross-functional collaboration and rapid adaptation in early-stage environments.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
