The Role
We are seeking an Associate Manager, Customs to lead our EMEA operations from our Amsterdam hub. This position represents a pivotal opportunity to own the customs function for a major region. You will guide a team of experts to ensure shipments move correctly across borders. Success requires navigating intense regulatory pressure while maintaining a focus on process excellence. You will transform complex regulations into actionable steps for our clients. The role demands decisive ownership of challenging cases and continuous operational elevation.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of Customs Specialists, instilling a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. This involves direct coaching and professional growth guidance for each team member. You will oversee daily customs brokerage operations, guaranteeing accuracy and strict adherence to EMEA regulations. This requires vigilant monitoring of every transaction to prevent errors.
Identifying and implementing process improvements will be a core function. You will analyze workflows to enhance efficiency and elevate the client experience. Collaboration is essential as you work cross-functionally with sales, operations, and product teams. This partnership is necessary to resolve complex customs issues and support strategic business initiatives.
You will serve as the escalation point for intricate declarations and regulatory inquiries. In this capacity, you will provide expert guidance to internal teams and clients. Monitoring key performance indicators is a critical duty. You will drive initiatives designed to meet or exceed both operational targets and compliance standards. Translating policy changes into clear, executable steps is vital. This ensures our operations remain flawless under regulatory scrutiny.
Requirements
A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in customs brokerage is mandatory. This experience must be within logistics environments where trade compliance is critical. Proven ability in leading and managing a team is essential. You must have a demonstrated history of shaping coaching habits and driving continuous improvement within your department.
Deep familiarity with EMEA customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements is required. This knowledge will directly guide daily decision-making processes. Strong analytical strength is necessary to navigate intricate rules and protect client interests. You must possess excellent communication skills to build trust with internal colleagues and external partners. A compliance-first mindset is non-negotiable. This attitude keeps regulators satisfied and supports the Flexport reputation in a heavily regulated industry.
Compensation and Location
This role is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and is a full-time position. The compensation package is structured between 75,000 and 95,000 euros per year.
