Systems Engineer, Integrations
Job description
.
About the role
This position is centered on the construction and ongoing operation of the essential connectors that link Fivetran's core platform with a broad spectrum of external software ecosystems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical bridges that enable seamless data exchange between our services and third-party tools. You will operate within the infrastructure layer that governs how our platform communicates with diverse data environments and services. This role demands a focus on durability, security, and scalability in every integration solution you touch. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that data movement remains reliable and efficient across all connected systems. The work involves both strategic design considerations and the detailed implementation of integration patterns. Your contributions will directly impact the extensibility and reliability of Fivetran's connectivity portfolio. This is an opportunity to shape the technical standards that define how integrations are built and maintained.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and deliver integrations that broaden the connectivity surface of the Fivetran platform while adhering to strict technical and security standards.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to design integration solutions that keep data movement efficient, reliable, and observable across heterogeneous systems.
- Enhance the extensibility of our existing architecture to accommodate custom workflows and specialized business requirements from both internal and external stakeholders.
- Define and uphold the technical standards, best practices, and operational controls necessary for secure, scalable, and maintainable data replication integrations.
- Develop and maintain robust API integrations using RESTful principles to ensure consistent and reliable data transfer between services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate complex business requirements into technical integration designs that are both practical and scalable.
- Implement integration patterns that abstract complexity and provide reusable components for common connectivity challenges across the platform.
- Monitor integration health and performance, identifying bottlenecks and driving improvements that enhance reliability and data integrity.
- Work within a hybrid deployment environment, managing integrations that span cloud-native and on-premises infrastructure as needed.
- Support the evolution of data pipeline architecture by ensuring integrations align with modern data movement strategies and operational expectations.
- Troubleshoot intricate integration issues by analyzing logs, network traffic, and system behavior to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
- Document integration designs, configurations, and operational procedures to ensure clarity, maintainability, and knowledge transfer across the team.
Requirements
- Bring professional experience in systems engineering or a closely related technical discipline that involves infrastructure and integration responsibilities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in designing, building, and managing software integrations across multiple protocols and platforms.
- Show the ability to operate effectively within a hybrid deployment environment that combines cloud-based and on-premises resources.
- Possess a solid understanding of data infrastructure concepts and the specific requirements involved in modern data movement and replication.
- Have a strong grasp of REST API development, including the design of endpoints, request and response formats, and error handling strategies.
- Show competence in data pipeline architecture and the factors that influence performance, reliability, and scalability in integrated systems.
- Exhibit strong systems integration skills, including the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of interconnected services.
- Demonstrate experience with cloud infrastructure management, including provisioning, monitoring, and optimization of cloud-based integration resources.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with specific integration platforms, data movement tools, or connector frameworks that align with Fivetran's technology stack.
- Experience contributing to open source integration projects or collaborative engineering efforts in similar environments.
- Background in automating integration testing and validation to ensure consistent and error-free data flows.
- Exposure to security and compliance frameworks relevant to data integration and movement in regulated environments.
