About the role
Firmus Technologies is seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer who will own the end to end thermal strategy for our AI Factory infrastructure from concept to validation. You will own the design and execution of thermal experiments that de risk our liquid cooling systems at scale. The role grants you exclusive access to our state of the art AI cluster featuring A100 and A400 GPUs for high fidelity simulation. You will drive innovation in cooling architectures while championing sustainability and operational efficiency across the entire product lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with cross functional teams to translate demanding performance targets into robust thermal solutions. This position places you at the centre of transforming AI infrastructure through advanced thermal management and digital twin capabilities. You will own the development and refinement of predictive models that guide both design and real time operations.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and lead thermal management strategies for AI systems exceeding 100kW per rack density within the AI Factory environment.
Design and validate cutting edge liquid cooling architectures including direct to chip cooling immersion systems and hybrid solutions using first principles analysis.
Execute large scale high fidelity CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent to evaluate thermal performance and guide hardware optimisation.
Develop predictive thermal models and comprehensive digital twins incorporating machine learning capabilities for future operational optimization.
Lead experimental validation campaigns instrumentation and data analysis for thermal testing of electronics and cooling components.
Provide technical leadership to cross functional teams ensuring alignment between thermal design hardware integration and system level requirements.
Champion sustainable cooling innovation with the primary objective of minimising Power Usage Effectiveness PUE across all facilities.
Own the thermal performance verification and compliance activities against internal benchmarks and external standards.
Drive innovation in heat transfer methodologies across all length scales and heat transfer modalities relevant to AI infrastructure.
Collaborate with operations and facilities teams to translate thermal insights into actionable strategies for energy efficiency and reliability.
Establish and maintain rigorous testing procedures that ensure repeatability traceability and safety in thermal experimentation.
Identify and mitigate thermal risks early in the design process through analysis prototyping and iterative testing.
Support the development of proprietary cloud capabilities by ensuring thermal robustness of the underlying AI compute infrastructure.
Contribute to thought leadership and internal knowledge sharing on advanced thermal management techniques and sustainability practices.
Requirements
Higher level degree in Mechanical Engineering Thermal Engineering or related field with focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
Minimum 8+ years of experience in thermal management for data center and high performance computing applications.
Deep expertise in ANSYS Fluent with proven ability to execute large scale complex CFD simulations.
Extensive experience in liquid cooling technologies including cold plates heat exchangers and cooling distribution systems.
Strong background in experimental thermal testing instrumentation and data analysis.
Proven track record of thermal design for electronic systems in demanding high power environments.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced dynamic environment aligned with startup pace and priorities.
Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and as part of a close knit cross functional team collaborating with founders and industry leaders.
Strong analytical problem solving skills with a methodical approach to root cause analysis and design iteration.
Commitment to safety quality and sustainability in all aspects of thermal engineering work.
Willingness to travel within the Asia Pacific region for collaboration and validation activities as required.
