About the role
The Applied Instructional Designer will play a key role in developing structured and impactful learning experiences for the MISUMI University Program. This position merges engineering knowledge with instructional design skills to create curricula, labs, and digital content that meet the needs of both academic and industry stakeholders. You will significantly influence how students engage with modern engineering workflows using MISUMI tools and products. In this capacity, you will act as a pedagogical architect, translating complex engineering workflows into coherent learning journeys. The role requires a balance of creativity and technical rigor to ensure educational materials are both effective and accurate. You will be responsible for bridging the gap between theoretical engineering concepts and practical, hands-on application in a digital format. Success in this position will be measured by the quality of learning experiences you enable and the clarity you bring to intricate subjects.

What you'll do
Design and create curricula, lab modules, and project-based learning experiences that reflect real-world engineering systems.
Convert demo platforms and training kits into structured educational pathways that guide learners from novice to competent user.
Develop instructor guides, student materials, assessments, and digital learning resources that are clear, comprehensive, and accessible.
Ensure curriculum alignment with academic standards, accreditation criteria (such as ABET), and university program objectives to maintain high educational quality.
Collaborate with Applied Content Engineers to maintain technical accuracy and relevance in educational materials through ongoing review and updates.
Work alongside University Applications Engineers to test and refine content in classroom environments, observing real-world usage and iterating accordingly.
Create scalable delivery formats, including in-person, hybrid, and self-paced online learning options to accommodate diverse learner needs.
Evaluate learning effectiveness and enhance course content based on feedback, assessment data, and evolving industry trends.
Contribute to the Quality Management System (QMS) as part of your role, ensuring documentation and processes meet organizational standards.
Identify opportunities for process improvement within the curriculum development lifecycle to increase efficiency and impact.
Maintain a repository of reusable learning assets and templates to support future course development and consistency.
Implement active learning strategies that engage students through problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative activities.
Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate business objectives into educational outcomes.
Document instructional design decisions and rationales to support future modifications and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Education, Instructional Design, or a related discipline.
3 to 5 years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or technical training, ideally within a STEM or engineering context.
Solid understanding of STEM education principles and project-based learning strategies to foster deep engagement.
Proven ability to simplify complex technical concepts into engaging and accessible learning experiences without sacrificing accuracy.
Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and digital content development tools to create and deploy effective learning modules.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, capable of working effectively with both technical and non-technical teams to align on goals.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.

The salary for this role ranges from $75,000 to $100,000 USD per year, depending on experience.
