About the role
Fastly is seeking a Program Manager to coordinate complex initiatives across our engineering and product organizations. You will drive cross-functional alignment to ensure our edge cloud platform continues to deliver high-performance digital experiences. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end execution of strategic programs that shape the future of our platform. You will act as the central hub for communication, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires a proactive mindset to identify risks early and facilitate solutions that keep initiatives on track. You will partner closely with technical and product leaders to align on objectives and outcomes. This position is critical for maintaining the velocity and quality required in a high-growth environment. Your work will directly influence the reliability and feature set of the edge network.

What you'll do
- Orchestrate the lifecycle of technical programs from initial planning through final delivery, ensuring all phases are managed with precision.
- Facilitate communication between engineering, product, and operations teams to remove blockers and maintain a smooth workflow.
- Track project milestones and provide status updates to stakeholders using clear and concise reporting structures.
- Define and refine processes to improve team efficiency and project outcomes, creating frameworks that can be replicated.
- Manage dependencies across multiple workstreams to ensure timely execution and prevent delays in the delivery chain.
- Coordinate with cross-functional partners to gather requirements and translate them into actionable project plans that are both realistic and ambitious.
- Monitor project risks and issues, escalating when necessary, and developing mitigation strategies to protect project timelines.
- Support the prioritization of initiatives based on business impact, resource availability, and technical dependencies.
- Drive alignment on objectives and key results to ensure all teams are moving in the same direction.
- Maintain documentation for all program activities, decisions, and changes to ensure transparency and historical insight.
- Collaborate with technical leads to understand trade-offs and assess the impact of scope changes on the overall program.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing technical programs within a software or infrastructure environment, demonstrating a track record of successful delivery.
- Ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable project plans that are understandable to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on cross-departmental coordination, ensuring that all teams are synchronized and informed.
- Experience working with distributed teams in a fast-paced technology company, adapting to varying time zones and workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and high standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- A history of working with agile development methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, to support iterative progress.
- Comfortability in a dynamic environment where requirements evolve and flexibility is essential for success.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in project management software and documentation tools, enabling efficient tracking and reporting of project status.
- Understanding of cloud computing, edge networking, or developer platform architectures, providing context for technical discussions.
- Experience with agile development methodologies, including the facilitation of sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Familiarity with version control concepts and how software development lifecycle impacts project planning.
- Basic knowledge of monitoring and observability tools to better understand the impact of program changes on system performance.
- Capability to learn new tools quickly and apply them to streamline program management activities.
Practical notes
Full-time engagement based in one of the following locations: Denver, CO; New York City, NY; San Francisco, Canada.
This role requires the ability to work during standard business hours with occasional adjustments to meet critical deadlines. Travel may be required between locations as needed for program reviews or stakeholder meetings. Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of the selected location.
