Strategic Finance
Job description
Strategic Finance at Fal Ai.
About the role
You will act as the primary financial strategist embedded directly within the operational fabric of fal, owning the integrity and utility of our financial systems and narratives. This role requires an individual who thrives on shaping the financial backbone of a generative media platform that processes immense scale without compromise. You will be responsible for consolidating financial data across the business and ensuring that every dollar of activity is accurately captured and understood. The position demands a low-ego collaborator who is energized by the constant ambiguity of a rapidly building process and a flat organizational structure. You will translate complex financial outcomes into clear narratives that drive executive decision-making at every level. Success in this role is defined by your ability to independently diagnose data issues and partner with technical teams to resolve them at speed. You will own the end-to-end financial visibility that allows the company to operate with precision and insight. This is a role for a generalist who is comfortable moving between detailed data work and high-level strategic planning.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will plan and drive company-wide financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes to align our ambitious growth goals with operational reality. You will maintain and extend our bottoms-up revenue model across all go-to-market motions and products, tracking actuals versus variances and surfacing insights that reshape our strategy. You will assist with the implementation of FP&A software and additional finance systems such as ERP and procurement platforms to ensure they serve our unique operational needs. You will partner closely with accounting and data teams on monthly revenue reporting, ensuring that product and customer-level breakdowns are accurate, timely, and actionable. You will build and maintain dashboards that give leadership real-time visibility into key performance metrics against plan and forecast, enabling rapid course correction. You will dive directly into our data environments, such as BigQuery, to identify discrepancies and drive fixes alongside the right technical partners, as we operate as a lean team without a dedicated analyst. You will leverage AI tools to automate recurring financial workflows, freeing capacity for higher-value analysis and strategic initiatives. You will own the construction and evolution of financial models that underpin major business decisions, ensuring they reflect the realities of our high-growth environment. You will translate financial results into clear, concise narratives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment across the organization. You will proactively identify risks and opportunities in the financial data and escalate them with context and recommended paths forward.
Requirements
You must possess 5+ years of experience across strategic finance, private or growth equity, or investment banking, with 3+ years of finance operating experience at a high-growth technology company. You must be able to read and troubleshoot data and validate metrics independently, without needing to hand-write SQL, yet possessing the capability to read a table, find what is wrong, and problem-solve it efficiently. You must have a working knowledge of core accounting concepts including billings, deferred revenue, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition, and be able to translate these concepts for non-finance stakeholders who rely on your expertise. You must demonstrate strong financial-modeling skills, capable of distilling complex and messy data into clear, actionable insights that inform strategic moves. You must have strong cross-functional communication and influencing skills, allowing you to work effectively with engineering, product, and data teams in a highly collaborative manner. You must be resourceful, low-ego, and energized by a high-urgency pace, genuinely excited to operate within a fast-changing AI startup where processes are constantly evolving. You must be comfortable working in an environment where titles are minimal and hierarchy is deliberately flat, requiring self-direction and initiative. You must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail in all financial outputs.
Nice to have
Experience in AI, cloud, or large-scale computing infrastructure would provide context for understanding the technical nuances of our platform. Experience implementing a modern FP&A tool would help us accelerate our reporting maturity and scalability. A track record of building or using AI tools to automate financial workflows is valued as it aligns with our drive for efficiency and innovation.
