About the role
Everlaw is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the design and delivery of customer-facing features that define the core of our legal technology platform. You will build and ship software across a complex full-stack ecosystem where search, databases, data visualization, machine learning and AI, real-time collaboration, and delightful user interfaces converge to transform legal workflows. This role grants significant autonomy to explore our entire system while encouraging deep specialization where your skills add the most value. You will partner closely with product and design to solve challenging problems with high impact, writing clean, maintainable code that scales and remains reliable over time. What you'll do
Build customer-facing features that represent the core of our product, including document and image/multi-modal processing, collaborative review tools, organization, translation tools, search, review, and more.
Use AI technologies to find the evidence rapidly, such as document classification, predictive coding, transfer learning, and LLMs to accelerate insight delivery.
Collaborate with one or more of the Product, Design, Engineering Operations, Security Engineering, and DevOps teams to build out and implement new features that are used in our production environments.
Help scale our system to larger datasets with hundreds of millions of documents while maintaining performance, reliability, and security.
Provide technical mentorship to other engineers by sharing your expertise and becoming a specialist in an area of our codebase to elevate the team's capabilities.
Be a code reviewer by reviewing code developed by others using your knowledge of programming languages, design patterns, and best practices to ensure quality and consistency.
Fix defects in our product by triaging product or system issues and writing code to debug, track, and resolve these issues efficiently.
Provide on-call support for the product by answering customer questions, triaging defects and exceptions, and carrying the pager to ensure timely resolution.
Contribute to the open-source community and internal tools that support our engineering culture, quality, and long-term maintainability.
Champion code quality and maintainability by implementing tests, refactoring legacy code, and proposing improvements that reduce technical debt.
Participate in architectural discussions and help define technical direction for features and infrastructure that support long-term growth.
Support the continuous improvement of our development processes, tooling, and workflows to help the team deliver value faster and more reliably.
Engage in learning and development opportunities, including knowledge-sharing sessions, to keep skills current and share insights with peers.
Represent Everlaw in technical discussions with partners, stakeholders, and customers to ensure alignment between business goals and technical execution.
Requirements
Demonstrate professional software engineering experience by building and shipping user-facing software in complex ecosystems.
Bring experience with full-stack development across search, databases, data visualization, machine learning/AI, real-time collaboration, and modern front-end interfaces.
Show comfort working across the entire stack with the autonomy to explore our system and the judgment to seek specialized contributions when appropriate.
Value clean code, using the right tools for the job, and avoiding dogma while maintaining a high standard of code quality and maintainability.
