About the role
Ethos Life is seeking a leader to guide the engineering team responsible for our direct to consumer user experience. You will manage the development of fullstack features across the application and checkout funnels while transitioning our current monolithic architecture into microservices. In this capacity, you will be accountable for defining the technical vision and execution strategy for consumer-facing products. The role requires ownership of end to end delivery, ensuring that business objectives are translated into robust and scalable engineering solutions. You will foster a culture of innovation where data driven decisions and rigorous experimentation are central to product development. Success in this position will be measured by your ability to balance long term architectural goals with the immediate demands of shipping features. You will act as a critical bridge between strategic business stakeholders and the hands on engineering teams.

What you'll do
- Direct engineering initiatives that drive business growth and revenue through focused execution on high impact projects.
- Partner with product, design, and marketing to test and implement new product strategies, aligning technical constraints with market opportunities.
- Oversee the migration of our monolithic application into a scalable microservices architecture, ensuring minimal disruption to existing users.
- Use quantitative and qualitative data to track and improve core KPIs, translating insights into actionable engineering priorities.
- Mentor engineers and conduct design and architecture reviews to uphold code quality and system reliability standards.
- Recruit and develop high performing engineering talent, building a cohesive team that excels in a fast paced environment.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Enterprise Sales, and Data engineering teams to manage the user lifecycle and optimize cross functional workflows.
- Establish clear technical roadmaps that balance innovation, technical debt, and the delivery of customer value.
- Drive the implementation of AB testing frameworks to validate hypotheses and optimize the consumer journey continuously.
- Define and monitor critical performance indicators related to application scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Lead cross functional initiatives that require coordination across engineering, analytics, and business operations teams.
- Ensure that all engineering practices adhere to industry best standards for maintainability, observability, and deployment automation.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural patterns to determine their applicability to our product roadmap.
- Foster a collaborative environment where feedback is encouraged and engineering solutions are iteratively refined.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in engineering management within high growth companies, demonstrating an ability to scale teams and processes.
- 5+ years of experience as an individual contributor, with a strong foundation in writing clean and maintainable code.
- Proven track record of delivering large scale, cross functional projects involving complex business logic and integration with multiple systems.
- Ability to manage consumer focused metrics including ARPU, conversion, retention, and churn, using data to inform strategic decisions.
- Experience building roadmaps and managing trade offs between competing priorities under conditions of uncertainty and rapid change.
- Proficiency in establishing process best practices for scaling teams, including workflows, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the capability to convey technical concepts to non technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in full stack development, with hands on familiarity across frontend and backend technologies.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and the challenges associated with decomposing monolithic systems.
- Familiarity with AB testing methodologies and data modeling techniques to support product experimentation and analytics.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of code quality, testing, and documentation across the engineering organization.
- Willingness to engage in hands on technical work, including debugging complex issues and reviewing critical production code.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve based on business needs and market feedback.
