What you'll do
- Analyze project blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for various construction projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements and scope, ensuring that all estimates are aligned with project goals.
- Conduct thorough market research to identify current material prices, labor costs, and other expenses that may impact project budgets.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals that outline project costs, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring clarity and transparency for clients.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process and enhance accuracy in cost calculations.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor bids and proposals, ensuring they align with project specifications and budget constraints.
- Monitor ongoing projects to track actual costs against estimates, providing insights and recommendations for cost control measures.
- Assist in the preparation of change orders and provide updated estimates as project scopes evolve.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and potential challenges.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and project documentation for future reference and auditing purposes.
- Collaborate with the finance department to ensure that project budgets are adhered to and that financial reporting is accurate.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to continuously improve estimating processes and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex construction documents and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a strong focus on accuracy and precision in cost estimation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
Nice to have
- Experience with project management software such as Procore or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and materials.
- Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
- Previous experience in a specific construction sector, such as residential, commercial, or industrial projects.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.
