About the role
Infrastructure Architect
EQ is a Canadian financial institution dedicated to improving how banking works for the country. Founded in 1970, the organization serves nearly 4 million people from coast to coast. It provides a broad spectrum of services, including everyday banking, lending solutions, trust management, and credit union offerings. The bank operates as a challenger to the traditional model, using technology to create faster and more connected experiences. Its long-term focus is on building a system where every Canadian can make progress.
The current team is the primary driver of this mission. The organization values people who challenge the status quo, question established practices, and search for improved paths forward. These individuals are expected to bring energy, curiosity, and a commitment to progress. If you are motivated to contribute to this evolution, a role within this structure may be a suitable match.
The Role
The Infrastructure Architect is a senior technical position responsible for directing the evolution of the bank's cloud‑based infrastructure. The scope of this position involves designing and managing platforms that are scalable, secure, and resilient. These platforms must function across public cloud, hybrid environments, and on‑premises settings. The role requires alignment with business goals, IT strategy, and daily operational needs.
This position serves as the central architectural authority for infrastructure. It is responsible for converting business requirements, application needs, and operational demands into cloud‑forward designs. These designs must emphasize automation, system elasticity, security, and efficient use of costs. The architect will create and maintain standards, reference models, and design patterns. The goal is to ensure consistent adoption of cloud services while supporting reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance.
The role reports to and works alongside the Director of Infrastructure Architecture and the VP of Infrastructure & Operations (I&O). It participates in shaping the bank's cloud strategy and influencing major technology investments. Specific duties include assessing cloud services and platforms, defining target‑state hybrid and public cloud architectures, and creating roadmaps for cloud adoption and legacy modernization. The position requires the production of clear documentation and actionable recommendations.
In addition, the Infrastructure Architect acts as a consultant to infrastructure, platform, and application teams. Guidance will focus on cloud best practices, platform decisions, and evaluation of architectural trade‑offs. Through this collaborative influence, the role promotes efficient, consistent, and sustainable infrastructure solutions throughout the organization.

- Partnering with technology leaders to assess new cloud services and their integration potential.
- Promoting best practices related to automation, monitoring, and security to ensure efficient and traceable operations.
- Leading roadmap activities that modernize legacy environments and transition them to cloud‑forward solutions while managing risk and dependencies.
Requirements
- Possess architecture authority for cloud infrastructure and the ability to govern it at scale.
- Have a minimum of three years of experience designing solutions for financial services in regulated industries.
- Show hands‑on experience with major public cloud providers and associated networking services.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of security principles, identity management, and compliance frameworks relevant to financial platforms.
