EQ Bank is currently engaged in a fundamental redesign of how banking operates across Canada, and this role owns the people strategy that makes that redesign possible. The Associate Director, HRBP will act as a primary architect for talent programs that directly support the delivery of modern financial services to nearly 4 million Canadians. This position requires a proactive challenger who questions existing HR structures and proposes smarter, faster alternatives to traditional banking operations. You will own the consultation on organizational changes that reshape how the Personal Banking division functions on a daily basis. Success in this role means you are able to translate high-level business strategy into concrete people and talent initiatives that drive execution. The hire will partner closely with senior leaders to ensure the employee experience aligns with the company's purpose of enriching people's lives through banking. What you'll do
Own the end-to-end talent management lifecycle for a major function within a financial institution.
Consult with senior leaders to define the departmental strategy and identify the role definition and organizational structure required for future growth.
Design and implement people programs that support a high-care, community-oriented culture across the Personal Banking division.
Analyze evolving business needs and translate them into talent strategies that drive successful execution of digital banking initiatives.
Develop and deploy role descriptions and capability frameworks that reflect modern challenges in financial services.
Partner with the Senior Director, HR Business Partner to attract, develop, and retain a high performing team.
Champion initiatives that foster a purpose-driven environment where employees are engaged and aligned with company goals.
Lead organizational change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions during periods of structural evolution.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions that enhance the employee experience.
Provide expert guidance on talent matters, ensuring compliance and best practices within the Canadian banking landscape.
Support the development of a culture that encourages challengers to ask better questions and seek better ways forward.
Monitor industry trends to ensure the HR strategies remain competitive and aligned with the broader financial services market.
Facilitate communication between leadership and teams to maintain transparency during periods of change.
Drive data-informed decisions related to workforce planning and talent management within the Personal Banking division.
Requirements
You must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
You need to have a proven track record of managing complex organizational change initiatives in a large enterprise environment.
Experience in the financial services sector, specifically within banking or lending environments, is mandatory.
You must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship for this position.
Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law and HR best practices is required.
You should have experience managing union or non-union environments with a high degree of professionalism.
The ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity is a non-negotiable standard for this role.
Nice to have
Experience in a challenger bank or a non-traditional financial institution is preferred.
Background in implementing digital transformation initiatives within HR is highly valued.
Prior success in building high-performance teams in a fast-growth environment is an asset.
Experience with data analytics and HR metrics to drive business decisions is a preferred qualification.

The role requires significant collaboration with senior leadership, requiring frequent interaction during standard business hours.
