About the role
Emeraldcloudlab is seeking a dedicated Facilities Manager to oversee the operational efficiency of our state-of-the-art facility located in Austin, Texas. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our laboratory environment is safe, efficient, and conducive to groundbreaking scientific research. As a Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the facility, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You will work closely with various teams to support their needs while optimizing the use of resources and maintaining a high standard of facility management.

What you'll do
- Oversee the daily operations of the facility, ensuring that all systems and equipment are functioning optimally to support laboratory activities.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for equipment and infrastructure, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance tasks, ensuring that all work is completed to the highest standards.
- Manage facility-related budgets, including forecasting expenses and tracking expenditures to ensure financial efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding safety, health, and environmental standards within the facility.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the research and development teams to understand their facility needs and provide solutions that support their projects.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, ensuring that all staff are trained and prepared for potential emergencies.
- Foster a culture of safety within the facility, promoting best practices and ensuring that all staff adhere to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of facility operations, maintenance activities, and compliance documentation for reporting purposes.
- Lead and mentor a team of facility staff, providing training and support to enhance their skills and performance.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in facility management to continuously improve operational processes and strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Facility Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, preferably in a laboratory or research environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems.
- Proven experience in budget management and cost control within a facilities context.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards related to laboratory operations and safety.
- Proficiency in using facility management software and tools for tracking maintenance and operations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as required by facility needs.
Nice to have
- Certification in facilities management (e.g., IFMA, BOMA) is a plus.
- Experience with sustainability initiatives and green building practices.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and hazardous materials handling.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is advantageous.
