Senior UI/UX Designer
Job description
About the role
We are looking for an exceptional Senior Product Designer to help define how humans interact with intelligent machines within the emerging field of Physical AI. You will join a fast-moving team of engineers, researchers, and builders who are actively redefining what is possible at the intersection of software and hardware. As one of our earliest design hires, you will have foundational influence over our products, interaction paradigms, design systems, and our overall user experience philosophy from the very beginning. This role is not a traditional SaaS design position; it requires a designer who is comfortable operating in ambiguous, high-stakes environments where the problems are novel and the solutions are not yet defined. You will design experiences that bridge the digital and physical worlds, spanning mobile apps, web platforms, robotics interfaces, operational tooling, and entirely new interaction models that do not yet exist in the mainstream. You will work directly with founders, robotics engineers, AI researchers, and hardware teams to shape the future of human-robot interaction from the ground up, ensuring that the human experience is at the center of powerful physical AI systems.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will pioneer new interaction models for human-robot communication that move far beyond traditional user interface paradigms, exploring how people naturally command, collaborate, and coexist with physical intelligent agents. You will design comprehensive end-to-end experiences that unify mobile applications, web platforms, direct robotics interfaces, physical controls, and operational dashboards into a coherent narrative for the user. Your responsibility will be to create intuitive workflows that make advanced robotics and Physical AI capabilities accessible, understandable, and actionable for developers, operators, and enterprise stakeholders who may have no prior robotics experience. You will lead generative and evaluative user research to understand how people currently interact with machines and how they imagine interacting with autonomous systems in their environments. You will architect scalable design systems that span both digital interfaces and physical touchpoints, ensuring consistency in language, patterns, and behavior across an evolving product suite. You will collaborate closely with AI, robotics, and hardware teams to translate complex technical capabilities into seamless, human-centered user experiences that feel magical yet reliable. You will rapidly prototype and iterate using modern AI-native design workflows, leveraging new tools to generate concepts, simulate interactions, and validate assumptions in days rather than weeks. You will own the full design lifecycle from initial concept and problem framing through detailed design, implementation support, and post-launch analysis with high autonomy and ownership. You will define the UX standards and interaction patterns that will become the de facto blueprint for the emerging Physical AI industry, setting expectations for how these systems should feel and behave. You will work directly with founders on product strategy, vision, and future platform direction, challenging assumptions and shaping the long-term roadmap based on user needs and technical feasibility.
Requirements
You must bring a minimum of 5 years of professional product design or UI/UX experience, demonstrating a consistent track record of delivering high-quality digital products. Your portfolio must showcase end-to-end product development, highlighting your ability to take ideas from initial research through to shipped experiences with measurable outcomes. You should have proven experience taking products from 0 to 1 in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where requirements evolve quickly and documentation is minimal. Deep proficiency in modern AI-native design workflows and tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and AI prototyping or design generation tools is essential for success in this role. You should already be actively using AI tools as part of your daily design workflow to accelerate exploration, iteration, and communication. You must be enthusiastic about integrating AI into every phase of your process, including ideation, research, wireframing, prototyping, user flows, and iterative cycles based on real-time feedback. You need to be comfortable rapidly exploring concepts using AI-assisted tooling rather than relying solely on traditional manual workflows, embracing a mindset of experimentation and speed. Strong systems-thinking mindset is required, as you will be designing cohesive experiences that span multiple surfaces, devices, interaction models, and sensory modalities in the physical and digital realms. Expert proficiency in Figma and modern prototyping tools such as ProtoPie, Principle, or Framer is required to communicate your ideas with precision and interactivity. You must have strong experience designing for both web and mobile platforms, understanding platform-specific conventions, constraints, and opportunities. You should be able to operate independently with a high degree of ownership and minimal oversight, making sound decisions even when information is incomplete. Excellent communication and storytelling skills are necessary to articulate your vision and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives, engineers, and researchers.
Nice to have
Candidates with experience designing for robotics, AI, AR/VR, IoT, or other emerging technologies will find strong alignment with this role. A background in industrial design or physical product design is highly valued, as it provides valuable perspective on constraints, materials, and embodiment. Understanding of robotics or hardware development constraints will help you design feasible solutions that respect mechanical, electrical, and computational boundaries. Experience with motion design, animation, or spatial interaction will allow you to add depth and delight to the user experience in meaningful ways. Front-end development knowledge in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a significant advantage for collaborating effectively with engineering teams and validating technical assumptions. Experience with 3D applications or spatial interfaces will expand your ability to imagine and prototype interactions in volumetric space. A genuine interest in the future of AI and human-computer interaction is expected, as this role will help define the long-term vision for human-facing robotics at scale.
Practical notes
This role is full-time and based in our Fremont Office. We are unable to sponsor visas at this time, and the position requires the ability to work on-site. There are no specific travel requirements for this role.
