Senior C++ Engineer, Fixed Term
Job description
About the role
You will analyze existing Linux-based C/C++ services to identify security vulnerabilities and stability risks within a long-running production platform. You will remediate vulnerabilities and apply secure coding practices across critical production services while upgrading legacy components and dependencies to maintain stability. A key portion of this role involves working with GenAI coding tools to accelerate these upgrades and support broader re-platforming efforts. You will work directly inside a complex, unfamiliar legacy codebase, identifying and resolving issues with persistence and methodical debugging. You will contribute to testing and validation to ensure remediation work does not introduce regressions and coordinate changes safely with application and platform teams. The role requires navigating ambiguity and understanding code you did not write to deliver reliable fixes under pressure. This is a temporary senior engagement with real ownership over the security and modernization of core financial news and data infrastructure.
Key facts
What you'll do
Analyze existing Linux-based C/C++ services to identify security vulnerabilities and stability risks.
Remediate vulnerabilities and apply secure coding practices across critical production services.
Upgrade legacy components and dependencies, ensuring stability is maintained throughout the migration.
Support re-platforming activities as NewsEdge functionality is migrated to compliant, modern infrastructure.
Work closely with application and platform teams to manage dependencies and coordinate changes safely.
Contribute to testing and validation to ensure remediation work doesn't introduce regressions.
Use GenAI coding tools to accelerate upgrades, with experience using tools such as Claude or other acceptable alternatives.
Navigate unfamiliar, underdocumented legacy codebases and read code you did not write.
Employ strong debugging skills to diagnose issues methodically and resolve them under pressure.
Requirements
5+ years of hands-on C/C++ development experience in Linux environments is the core requirement for this role.
You must have proven ability to work in unfamiliar, underdocumented legacy codebases and reason about code you did not write.
Experience with security vulnerability remediation is required, including identifying, triaging, and resolving issues in production systems.
You should be comfortable with dependency and component upgrades in complex, tightly coupled systems.
Proven ability to work effectively in GenAI coding tools is necessary, as the client uses Claude but other tools are acceptable.
Strong debugging skills must be methodical, patient, and effective under pressure.
Experience with stabilisation and re-platforming efforts in live production environments is essential.
You must have strong knowledge of secure coding practices and awareness of common vulnerability classes such as memory safety, injection, and buffer overflows.
Strong communication skills are required to document findings, explain risk clearly, and flag blockers early to stakeholders.
