About the role
We are seeking a product leader to guide Degreed's core intelligence layer for skills and the experiences that foster learning. This role is for someone who understands how to build platforms that genuinely help individuals develop new capabilities, focusing on measurable outcomes rather than just content consumption.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Define and advance Degreed's learning experiences, from self-directed paths to structured group programs.
- Oversee Degreed Academies, empowering clients to deliver certifications and onboarding.
- Determine how skill data informs personalized learning suggestions and content recommendations.
- Guide the development of AI features that identify skill gaps and recommend learning to close them.
- Design the complete learner journey, from identifying a need to demonstrating skill acquisition.
- Manage the data model for Degreed's skills product, including definition, organization, and accuracy.
- Oversee the platform clients use to customize Degreed's skill taxonomy with their own terminology.
- Establish proficiency rating scales with clear distinctions between skill levels.
- Ensure Degreed's skill data aligns with external frameworks and enterprise HR systems.
- Develop processes for AI interactions to continuously improve underlying skill data and measure this progress.
- Evolve the skills model by balancing consistency, client needs, and long-term product health.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience, including direct ownership of launched learning products.
- Proven ability to ship learning products that demonstrably improve skills and deliver outcomes.
- Understanding of how large organizations structure learning programs, including academies and career paths.
- Experience designing assessment scales with clear, observable differences between proficiency levels.
- Demonstrated ability to build classification systems that remain relevant over time.
- Familiarity with frameworks like O*NET and ESCO.
- Experience managing structured data with clear ownership, versioning, and quality standards.
- A mindset for designing systems that improve with accumulated data.
- Sufficient understanding of machine learning to collaborate effectively with engineers.
- Judgment in situations requiring balancing standardized definitions with customer needs.

Practical notes
Compensation: 185,000 USD - 197,000 USD annually. Actual compensation depends on factors like skills, experience, location, and internal equity.
