Senior Product Designer | US
Job description
About the Role
Degreed is the leading enterprise learning system for workforce transformation, bringing together everything people need to learn and advance: courses, videos, articles, projects, and real-world skill insights, matched to individual roles, skills, and goals. For businesses, Degreed builds the infrastructure for a culture of learning that attracts, develops, and retains top talent, driving performance at scale. Named to Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies of 2026 - alongside Google, Nvidia, and Adidas - Degreed is recognized for its AI-driven approach to closing the human readiness gap and turning learning ambition into measurable impact. We believe learning is the key to unlocking opportunity, and our mission is to discover, empower, and celebrate the next generation of global expertise. Join us in shaping the future of learning and workforce development!
The product design team at Degreed shapes how people at large enterprises learn, build skills, and get coached by AI, across our learning platform, our skills data layer, and our AI coach, Maestro. You will help extend our design system, while also rethinking what still needs a screen at all as AI takes on more of the work. That means design decisions that go beyond the visual: what should disappear into automation, and what needs to stay observable and reversible for the person using it. The role carries ownership across dense admin tools built for L&D teams managing large organizations and lighter, browsable experiences built for individual learners, sometimes on the same page for the same feature. You will work directly with the engineers and product managers building alongside you rather than through a hand-off process. The team is distributed and remote-first, and the work itself sets the pace.
What You'll Do
You will conduct discovery research and usability tests with end users and key decision makers to translate complex enterprise needs into clear design direction. This involves owning the full design lifecycle for features across Degreed's learning platform, skills data layer, and AI coach Maestro, from problem framing through specs and QA through launch and impact measurement. You will extend and maintain Degreed's design system, making critical judgments on when to reuse existing patterns and when a new component is necessary.
A key responsibility is auditing existing surfaces such as admin settings, profile pages, and core learning workflows to reduce inconsistency and friction. You will leverage AI tools and technologies to prototype interactions quickly, generate and compare component variations, and identify where workflows can be delegated to AI instead of being built as traditional UI. You will evaluate whether a workflow requires a visible UI at all, weighing factors like observability, reversibility, and auditability to determine if AI can handle a task invisibly. Building interactive, near-functional prototypes using code or AI-assisted tools will be essential to validate direction before full specification.
The role demands strong product design craft, including the ability to distinguish stated requests from underlying needs and to define scoped, buildable specifications that balance enterprise constraints. You will apply prompt engineering and technical understanding to assess AI feasibility, accuracy, latency, and context limitations when designing AI-native features. Collaboration with engineers and product managers is constant, requiring clear communication and asynchronous coordination within a distributed, remote-first team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership across complex features. Expertise in design systems and component-based thinking is required, with a proven track record of extending and maintaining large-scale systems. You must show a demonstrated ability to work with ambiguous and conflicting input from enterprise customers, converting it into clear and buildable design decisions.
Strong fluency in visual and interaction design is essential, along with mastery of tools such as Figma, code-based prototyping, or similar authoring environments. Experience conducting discovery research, synthesizing findings, and running usability tests to inform design outcomes is required. Comfort with using AI tools and technologies to accelerate prototyping, explore variations, and delegate workflows to AI where appropriate is expected. A solid understanding of prompt engineering and the capabilities and limitations of AI - including accuracy, latency, and context constraints - is necessary for success in this role.
The ability to work effectively in a remote-first, distributed team is mandatory, with a commitment to clear and asynchronous communication. There are no specified hours or travel requirements, and the position is based in the US as a remote role.
