About the role
This role owns the end-to-end development of customer-facing features that directly serve millions of financially vulnerable users. You will build the core web and mobile applications using a full stack JavaScript and TypeScript foundation. The position requires close collaboration with product and design to translate user needs into scalable and testable software solutions. You will own the implementation of features that impact acquisition, onboarding, and subscription management workflows. This role delivers high-quality code through incremental shipping and rigorous testing practices. You will interface with backend services and infrastructure to ensure robust and scalable application performance. The role is critical in defining the technical foundation that supports Dave's mission of leveling the financial playing field.

What you'll do
- Play an instrumental role as a full stack engineer in building products that help millions of people improve their relationship with money.
- Perform full stack web and mobile application development using JavaScript and TypeScript to deliver reliable and efficient solutions.
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers and design teams to define feature specifications and build products using frameworks such as React and React Native.
- Design and develop fully-tested APIs that interface with multiple services to ensure seamless data flow and system reliability.
- Deliver consistent high-quality code by shipping incrementally across multiple pull requests to manage complexity and risk.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to promote squad-owned quality and maintain long-term code health.
- Work closely with operations and infrastructure teams to build, deploy, and scale back-end services that meet user demand.
- Regularly participate in code reviews and other team functions to share knowledge, provide feedback, and ensure collective code ownership.
- Translate business requirements into technical tasks while maintaining a focus on user experience and system performance.
- Contribute to Dave's growth by developing features for subscription management and onboarding that drive new user engagement.
- Experiment with technical solutions that support future product growth and scalability within the Dave tech stack.
- Support the design and implementation of features that align with data-driven decisions from the Acquisition Growth team.
- Act as an active contributor in a collaborative environment that values learning, growth, and mentorship.
- Help maintain the stability and performance of applications that are critical to the financial tools used by members.
Requirements
- Graduate with a BS or MS from a computer science or similar program, where other majors will be considered in conjunction with appropriate related experience and/or training.
- Possess 2+ years of experience in software development with a proven track record of delivering projects.
- Demonstrate strong computer science fundamentals and advanced problem-solving skills in complex software scenarios.
- Show a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative and agile environment.
- Have experience programming in one or more general purpose programming languages, including but not limited to: JavaScript, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.
- Bring experience with the Dave Tech Stack, which is a plus: Typescript running on Node.js, MySQL, Google Cloud Platform, React Native, and React.
- Maintain effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback professionally.
- Possess the ability to discuss and explain system architecture and component design to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Exhibit attention to detail and a strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Show willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Understand the importance of writing tests and ensuring code quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Align with the company's mission of serving financially vulnerable members with speed, affordability, and accessibility.
- Be comfortable working in a virtual-first environment where the office is primarily remote across the United States.
- Demonstrate ownership of tasks and the initiative to drive projects from conception to completion.

- Experience with financial services applications or fintech products is a preferred qualification.
- Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance considerations related to consumer credit products.
- Knowledge of modern frontend state management libraries and patterns.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure management and deployment pipelines.
- Understanding of user acquisition and conversion optimization principles.
