About the role

You will design, build, and maintain the backend code that powers the core features used by millions of members within the Dave financial ecosystem. You will partner closely with product managers and designers to translate business requirements into robust technical specifications and high-quality software delivery. The role involves providing technical leadership and mentorship to guide the team toward best practices and sustainable development patterns. You will own the implementation of backend services using modern programming paradigms and ensure system reliability and performance. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Martech squad to integrate marketing and user engagement capabilities directly into the product experience. You will leverage your problem-solving skills to create innovative solutions that scale and delight users over time. What you'll do

• Architect and implement scalable backend services using Typescript to support high-traffic financial features.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code that forms the foundation of user-facing products and internal tools.
• Participate actively in code reviews to ensure quality, share knowledge, and uphold engineering standards across the squad.
• Provide technical leadership by guiding architectural decisions and influencing the long-term technical roadmap of the product.
• Mentor junior engineers through pair programming and constructive feedback to elevate the entire team's capabilities.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to define detailed feature specifications and align on user experience goals.
• Build user interfaces using frameworks such as React.js and React Native to create responsive and accessible member experiences.
• Integrate with third-party services and internal platforms to enable seamless functionality across the mobile and web applications.
• Utilize monitoring and metric tools to diagnose issues, track performance, and drive data-informed improvements.
• Work within an Agile development environment to deliver incremental value through sprints and iterative releases.
• Explain complex system architecture and component design to both technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively.
• Support the evolution of the marketing website to improve performance, discoverability, and search engine optimization.
• Leverage AI-driven SEO strategies to maintain a competitive edge in the digital financial services landscape.
• Contribute to the success of the Martech initiatives that enable personalized messaging and lifecycle marketing at scale.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, with alternative consideration given for equivalent experience and training.
• Bring a minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience building full stack applications from start to finish.
• Demonstrate strong foundational knowledge in computer science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and system design.
• Exhibit proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language such as JavaScript, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.
• Show experience using modern frontend frameworks to build user-centric interfaces that perform well at scale.
• Communicate effectively with a positive attitude, and engage in constructive feedback exchanges with peers and stakeholders.
• Utilize monitoring and metric tools to observe system health, troubleshoot issues, and guide optimization efforts.
• Work comfortably within an Agile development environment, adapting to changing priorities and iterative delivery cycles.
• Articulate system architecture and component design during technical discussions and documentation processes.
• Collaborate reliably within a cross-functional team environment, aligning individual work with shared objectives.
• Understand the fundamentals of financial applications and the importance of security, transparency, and accessibility.
• Be prepared to engage with production systems that require high availability and strict operational standards.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Node.js to accelerate backend service development and integration.
• Hands-on experience building production mobile applications using React Native for cross-platform delivery.

Employment is based in the United States, and team members can live and work anywhere in the country, with the exception of Hawaii.
