About the role
You will serve as the primary Project Manager for CEQA compliance assignments, owning the end to end delivery of environmental documentation and regulatory processes for a diverse portfolio of development, infrastructure, and policy projects across California. You will lead the preparation of categorical exemptions, initial studies, mitigated negative declarations, and Environmental Impact Reports while coordinating closely with agency clients, subconsultants, and internal technical specialists. This role requires you to explore and grow new opportunities through business development, proposal assignments, and proactive relationship management to strengthen the consulting presence in the Southern California region. You will exercise strong string management skills, navigating a variety of project types and communities with an emphasis on collaboration, mentorship, and consistent high quality output. The position is focused on ensuring client satisfaction by acting as the main point of contact for CEQA deliverables, confirming that all CEQA and sometimes NEPA requirements are met, and maintaining rigorous adherence to schedules, scopes, and budgets.

What you'll do
Develop and manage CEQA documentation and compliance strategies for a wide range of development, infrastructure, and policy projects throughout California.
Prepare environmental documents including categorical exemptions, initial studies, mitigated negative declarations, Environmental Impact Reports, and related CEQA compliance studies with attention to quality and regulatory accuracy.
Act as the hands on manager for environmental documentation, coordinating with subconsultants and internal teams to ensure timely and compliant deliverables.
Confirm that all CEQA requirements are satisfied by completing thorough analysis and documentation within established guidelines and agency expectations.
Serve as the primary client contact for CEQA deliverables, ensuring clear communication, responsiveness, and high levels of client satisfaction.
Create and maintain project schedules, scopes, and budgets, focusing on project success through realistic commitments and proactive risk management.
Manage existing workloads while anticipating future demands, appropriately prioritizing deadlines to meet client needs and internal standards.
Pursue business development and proposal writing opportunities to expand the firm's presence and secure new engagements in Southern California.
Support the growth of the Environmental Planning Practice by collaborating with team members on marketing materials, case studies, and strategic initiatives.
Engage in continuous learning to stay current on CEQA regulations, best practices, and emerging project types, sharing insights with colleagues to elevate the overall quality of service.
Contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects spanning various communities and development contexts, gaining broad experience in environmental planning and compliance.
Promote a collaborative work environment by partnering effectively with consultants, subconsultants, and internal specialists across disciplines.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills when preparing technical documents, responding to agency comments, and interacting with clients.
Maintain professional standards by adhering to ethical guidelines, accuracy, and attention to detail in all project activities.
Support the firm's goals by identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing practical solutions that enhance efficiency and project outcomes.
Requirements
Candidates must reside in California or be able to work from one of the listed California locations.
Only candidates living locally or within the State of CA will be considered for this position.
Employees may be required to visit client locations, job sites, or other business-related locations in the course of their duties.
Employees may be assigned to clients whose business needs require driving as part of the employee's job responsibilities.
Accordingly, employees assigned to positions requiring business-related driving must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
You must have experience preparing and managing environmental documentation and CEQA processes for a variety of project types.
You must demonstrate strong string management skills while handling multiple projects and competing priorities.
You must have a proven ability to partner and collaborate effectively with team members, subconsultants, and agency staff.
You must be well versed in the practice of CEQA documentation, including familiarity with CEQA guidelines, checklists, and regulatory procedures.
You must possess excellent writing and communications skills to prepare clear, concise, and technically accurate documents.

This is a full-time, hybrid position in the Planning Services Group within the Environmental Planning Practice.
