About the role

The Senior Building Inspector operates under the direct authority of the Building Official within the jurisdiction of CSG Consultants. This role owns the critical responsibility of supervising, evaluating, training, and coordinating the work of building inspectors who perform inspection duties across all construction phases. The position owner ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and state and local regulations during inspections of new construction, alterations, and repairs. This role investigates difficult enforcement or public relations problems when they arise and makes necessary recommendations for corrections. The Senior Building Inspector is required to confer with contractors and builders to resolve violations and ensure adherence to approved plans and specifications. This position also provides direct plan checking services for compliance on minor projects such as residential additions and commercial tenant improvements. Finally, the role owner must detect deviations from plans, specifications, and standard construction practices while handling multiple complex tasks simultaneously.

What you'll do

Perform field inspections of industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to assure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Make field inspections when difficult enforcement or public relations problems arise or as directed by the Building Official.

May supervise, assign, and lay out the work of construction inspectors engaged in the inspection of residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings for conformance to Building Code.

Check methods of construction and quality of materials at building sites.

Investigate and resolve complaints.

Make recommendations for corrections and confer with contractors and builders to resolve violations of building and related codes.

Train, instruct, and evaluate inspectors in the proper procedures and techniques of inspection and the application and interpretation of Code provisions and departmental policies.

Provide plan checking services for compliance with applicable codes for minor projects, including, but not limited to, residential additions and accessory structures, and commercial, industrial tenant improvements.

Detect deviations from plans or specifications and standard construction practices.

Handle several tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Prepare comprehensive inspection reports and document findings for official records and regulatory compliance.

Coordinate with project stakeholders to schedule inspections and communicate requirements effectively.

Ensure all inspection activities align with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable legal standards.

Maintain professional communication and collaborate with other departments as needed to support broader organizational objectives.

Requirements

Candidates must live locally or within the State of California as a condition of employment.

Employees may be required to visit client locations, job sites, or other business-related locations in the course of their duties.
