About the role
The owns the full lifecycle management of multiple public works projects from initial planning through final closeout. This role is responsible for leading the preparation, design, and construction oversight of infrastructure initiatives while ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards. The position requires direct leadership of project teams to deliver technically sound and compliant engineering solutions on schedule. The Senior Engineer acts as the primary technical authority for both internal staff and external client stakeholders. Success in this role depends on the ability to coordinate complex project activities across multidisciplinary groups. The engineer will provide critical guidance to ensure designs meet Caltrans and AASHTO requirements. Continuous client interaction and transparent communication are central to maintaining project alignment and trust.

What you'll do
- Architect comprehensive plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a wide range of public works projects while guiding engineering teams through each development phase.
- Direct and mentor engineering personnel to perform intricate design and analysis tasks, ensuring all deliverables meet technical and regulatory standards.
- Develop detailed project schedules and monitor financial expenditures to maintain budgets and achieve timely project milestones.
- Orchestrate seamless collaboration with clients, field crews, agency representatives, utility providers, and other consulting firms to align project objectives.
- Uphold rigorous knowledge of current Caltrans and AASHTO design standards, applying them consistently across all project documentation.
- Interface proactively with internal stakeholders and external clients to clarify requirements and resolve project-related matters.
- Conduct thorough reviews of construction methodologies, safety protocols, and quality control measures before implementation.
- Adapt to shifting project demands by taking on additional engineering responsibilities as they arise within the project portfolio.
- Validate construction deliverables and ensure that all documentation is accurate, complete, and ready for client review.
- Support the preparation of technical reports and presentation materials for project updates and stakeholder meetings.
- Facilitate project coordination meetings to track progress, address challenges, and adjust plans as necessary.
- Implement robust project tracking systems to monitor timelines, costs, and resource allocation throughout the engagement.
- Provide subject matter expertise to resolve complex engineering issues that may impact project delivery.
- Ensure all project outputs comply with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of 6 years of progressive engineering experience in relevant civil engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrate the capability to mentor and develop mid-level design staff through guidance and technical coaching.
- Maintain a valid driver's license to support job-related travel and potential driving requirements.
- Be authorized to work within the State of California without sponsorship for this position.
- Commit to working locally or within California, as relocation expenses are not provided by the firm.
- Possess the capacity to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining attention to detail.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Apply analytical reasoning to evaluate engineering solutions and project risks.

This role requires employees to visit client locations, job sites, or other business-related locations as part of their duties. In addition, employees may be assigned to clients whose business needs require driving as part of the employee's job responsibilities. Accordingly, employees assigned to positions requiring business-related driving must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The firm considers only candidates living locally or within the State of California and does not pay any relocation expenses.
