About the role

The role holder conducts building inspections for residential and limited commercial structures under direct supervision of the Building Official or the Building Inspector Supervisor. What you'll do

Perform field inspections of residential and limited commercial structures during various stages of construction and remodeling to assure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Investigate and make reports on apparent violations of the applicable codes and regulations.

Provide code interpretation to the client, building professionals & the public.

Resolve problems and set priorities.

Read and interpret building plans, specifications and building codes.

Detect deviations from plans or specifications and standard construction practices.

Maintain basic record keeping practices on paper or with a computer.

Handle several tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to details in an environment of frequent interruptions.

Work effectively with government entities, private interest, contractors and professional clientele.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Perform other related duties as required.

Inspect construction elements using established procedures to verify conformity with standards.

Document findings clearly and consistently for regulatory and client review.

Support compliance efforts through timely and thorough field assessments.

Requirements

Must reside locally or within the State of CA and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship at this time. Employees may be required to visit client locations, job sites, or other business-related locations in the course of their duties. In addition, employees may be assigned to clients whose business needs require driving as part of the employee's job responsibilities. Accordingly, employees assigned to positions requiring business-related driving must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a level necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Must have visual acuity sufficient to inspect construction activities and review documents. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to perform inspections, paperwork, and computer functions for extended periods. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally and climb ladders or access confined spaces when required for inspections. Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check consistent with local regulations and CSG Consultants policies. Must comply with safety protocols and professional standards during field and office activities.

Practical notes

The position operates under direct supervision of the Building Official or the Building Inspector Supervisor and involves a range of inspection duties across Newman, CA and potentially other client locations within the state. Employees in this role must maintain current knowledge of building codes, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other relevant regulations to accurately assess compliance during each inspection. The work requires frequent travel to active job sites, and assigned personnel must hold a valid driver's license with a clean record if driving responsibilities are part of the assignment. Timekeeping and documentation must align with CSG Consultants procedures and client reporting requirements. This role may require extended periods of walking, bending, kneeling, and using hand tools or digital devices in varying weather conditions. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with contractors, property owners, and regulatory officials. The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
