You will supervise multiple Transmission Engineer Team Leaders, Transmission Engineers, and Transmission Engineering Technicians, directing the full lifecycle of high-voltage transmission projects from concept to documentation. You will own the technical accuracy and code compliance of all department deliverables, ensuring designs meet utility, industrial, and renewable energy standards. In this role, you will translate complex project requirements into clear engineering workflows for your teams while mitigating technical risks. You will act as the primary technical authority for the Transmission Engineering Department, resolving escalated design issues and upholding the highest standards of integrity. You will champion continuous improvement by analyzing project outcomes and implementing process enhancements that strengthen our solutions. You will foster a culture of accountability where the team wins together and every member develops their professional capabilities. You will engage directly with customers and construction staff to ensure design intent is realized in the field. What you'll do
Orchestrate the end-to-end transmission engineering workflow by delegating specific design tasks and activities to Transmission Engineer Team Leaders and Engineers.
Manage the full design and checking processes for multiple concurrent transmission projects, ensuring schedules, quality, and adherence to standards are maintained.
Resolve technical questions and design ambiguities for construction managers, field staff, project managers, and customer representatives in a timely manner.
Ensure all transmission designs, calculations, and documentation comply with applicable authoritative codes and industry standards.
Oversee the training, development, and performance of Transmission Engineer Team Leaders, Transmission Engineers, and Transmission Engineering Technicians.
Coordinate the assignment, scheduling, and workload balancing across the Transmission Engineering Department to meet project demands.
Assess and recognize methods to elevate every customer's experience through improved design processes and field collaboration.
Recruit, hire, and onboard new engineering talent, providing mentorship and clear career development pathways.
Travel periodically to customer offices for strategic project meetings and to job sites for construction reviews and inspections.
Perform bi-yearly evaluations for all direct reports, providing structured feedback, growth plans, and disciplinary guidance when necessary.
Enforce department discipline policies and ensure adherence to Beta core competencies and Beta principles in all professional interactions.
Provide technical and administrative input on organizational structure, continuing education, and employee development initiatives.
Maintain current knowledge of transmission design practices, including grading, foundations, pole structure design, steel detailing, and wire stringing.
Drive the creation of plan and profile drawings, general arrangements, structure designs, PLS CADD models, and related documentation.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution as a mandatory qualification for this role.
Possess a current Professional Engineering (PE) license, which is required to practice and sign off on transmission engineering deliverables.
Bring previous design experience in overhead and underground transmission systems, including grading, foundation design, and structural details.
Demonstrate hands-on expertise with power line design software such as PLS CADD, along with supporting tools like MathCad.
Show prior supervisory experience managing engineering staff, including training, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
Exhibit a strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and presentations.
Maintain a clean driving record because the use of company vehicles is a requirement of position and travel to job sites is essential.
Display the ability to work effectively with remote employees, integrating them into team processes and maintaining inclusion.
Commit to performing quality work within deadlines without direct supervision, demonstrating ownership of outcomes.
Nice to have
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil 3D, and related design platforms is preferred for efficient documentation.
Experience supporting utility, industrial, and renewable energy market projects is preferred to understand diverse customer needs.
Practical notes
Overnight travel to active job sites may be required to perform construction visits and address on-site technical questions.
Periodic travel to customer offices is necessary for project meetings and stakeholder engagement.
This is a Regular Full-Time position based in the United States, and eligibility to work in the country is required.
