The DIS-TRAN Steel division is currently seeking a Fitter to join the Fabrication team at the Pineville Plant. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for interpreting detailed engineering drawings to assemble and fit structural steel components. These components include tubular steel transmission poles, latticed transmission towers, substation dead-end structures, support frameworks, and other specialized configurations. Success in this position requires the ability to translate blueprint specifications into precise steel layouts. Performing this work demands both speed and accuracy to ensure the production of high-quality products and to maintain a consistent workflow. The daily responsibilities will involve significant use of mathematical calculations, often performed with tape measures and other precision devices. also, the position requires interaction with various types of moving machinery and equipment, including cranes, to safely manipulate and position heavy steel structures.
The successful candidate will own the complete lifecycle of steel structures as they move through the FAB department. This responsibility begins at intake and continues through the building, review, and shipping phases, extending to collaboration with partner teams. Daily decisions made by the Fitter will have a direct impact on product quality, production pace, and overall reliability for critical transmission and support structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpreting engineering diagrams and blueprints for tubular poles and latticed towers, confirming correct material placement during the intake process.
- Establishing and setting up jigs and alignment tools to guarantee precise component positioning during the building phase, ensuring strict tolerance control and stable production flow.
- Operating cranes and other heavy moving equipment safely and efficiently to position substantial steel elements, preparing them for the review process.
- Verifying all specifications and conducting measurements using tape measures and associated devices to validate structural fit throughout the build cycle.
- Executing tasks with a high degree of speed and precision to sustain an uninterrupted and steady flow of products.
- Coordinating handoffs to the review station, where quality inspections and partner expectations determine if work advances to the shipping stage.
- Communicating effectively with external partner departments outside of FAB to resolve issues, adjust schedules, and keep transfer portal records current.
- Maintaining workflow continuity by updating the status of items within the portal as they progress from intake, through build, and to ship.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives by documenting effective methods that enhance speed, accuracy, and reliability for future structural projects.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent experience within fabrication roles. A demonstrated ability to interpret technical drawings specific to steel structures and transmission components is mandatory. Candidates must prove they can operate safely around cranes and moving machinery in a active plant setting. The role requires the capability to perform accurate measurements and calculations utilizing tape measures and related tools. Ultimately, the individual must complete all assigned tasks with both speed and precision to uphold a reliable product flow.
