What you'll do
- Assist in the monitoring and analysis of security alerts and incidents to identify potential threats to the organization's information systems.
- Participate in the development and implementation of security policies, protocols, and procedures to safeguard sensitive data.
- Help maintain and update the organization's IT infrastructure, including hardware and software installations.
- Support the IT team in troubleshooting technical issues and providing assistance to end-users.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify weaknesses in systems and applications.
- Collaborate with team members to develop training materials and resources aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness among staff.
- Document IT processes, procedures, and incident reports to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Engage in research to stay current with the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technologies, sharing findings with the team.
- Assist in the configuration and management of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools.
- Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions to contribute innovative ideas for improving IT security.
- Support the preparation of reports and presentations for management regarding security incidents and IT performance metrics.
- Work on special projects as assigned, which may include software development or system upgrades, depending on the intern's skills and interests.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, practices, and tools, including firewalls, antivirus software, and intrusion detection systems.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols, such as TCP/IP, DNS, and VPNs.
- Proficiency in using operating systems, particularly Windows and Linux, as well as common productivity software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically about security challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive attitude towards learning and professional development in the field of IT and cybersecurity.
Nice to have
- Previous internship or work experience in IT support, cybersecurity, or a related area.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks and standards, such as NIST, ISO 27001, or GDPR.
- Experience with security tools like Wireshark, Metasploit, or Nessus.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), or similar credentials.
